In the spirit of the upcoming Halloween, it would be interesting to try this story with a bit of a Candyman twist.

Perhaps the slave was lynched by a mob of whites for some insolent outburst. Unknown to the whites, the slave's mother inherited the mystical secrets of the family's roots in Africa and is something of a local shaman. She is able to recall her son as some kind of undead ghost/demon.

The son then goes around at night, impregnating the daughters of the town's racist white population. Having their daughter give birth, out of wedlock, to black babies, would be far more upsetting and dishonorable (considdering the climate) to those families than if the slave simply killed those who had killed him.

I've been thinking it would be very easy to carry this into a modern-day urban legend. Assume that the ghost (let's call him "Randyman") was so busy that within a few years, virtually all the children in town are black - half are natural born of black families, half are his own offspring. Within a generation or so, the town is pretty much an all-black town. Fast forward to modern times and little by little, white people start making homes there. Perhaps they come seeking much needed employment in the current financial climate.

Randyman is still present in the town, but with the absence of much of a white population over the past century, he hasn't been very active. But with the influx of fresh white families, he suddenly finds himself with a score of potential new targets. All it takes is one racial slur, no matter how tongue-in-cheek, to bring him down upon your family...

For the extra shock factor, you could make him able to even impregnate women on the pill, or even middle-aged milfs who have had their tubes tied.

Meh. I like my vengeful spirits a little less rational than that. I don't know what I would do in the meanwhile but I see Randyman as the type who comes down upon the mothers/sisters/daughters of the locals who think they are better for being lighter or darker as you said any racial slur no matter how slight.

As far as less rational, I like the idea of the slight not even being necessary for the influx of white people. They've done nothing wrong, many are very modern or even forward thinking people to whom it doesn't even occur to to consider black people all that different from whites.

And Randyman none the less goes about his work, seeking his revenge, and tearing through the population of white women having his way and planting his seed.

Also, how "white" are we talking? Is a Mexican or Central American girl still white? Maybe he decides to have his way with the young woman working as a low-wage maid to support her family back home (I'm a fan of irony in my porn).

You bring up an interesting point about the non-caucasian non-blacks. I assume his views towards other races would be contemporary of his time. I don't know how 1850s blacks felt about latinos. Their exposure to the region probably would've been so small that there probably wasn't a general community attitude towards them. Remember, slaves weren't "men of the world" acquainted with all the various cultures.

Maybe I was on the wrong track with the racial basis? Maybe his gripe would be more to do with families of influence? After all, that was the essence of the indignities he suffered - being abused by the haves, because he was a have not. Perhaps that is why he seemed to have gone dormant for so many decades. A spate of pure white girls giving birth to black babies, in the 19th century? Well, there you've got a scandal, possibly the makings of an urban legend. But then, when the white population dwindles down to virtually zero, and the most influential families in town are black, nobody thinks twice about the black women having black babies. It's possible even Randyman's babymommas aren't even aware of their child's true parentage, if they are already sexually active.

Then maybe a big corporation sets up a new office in town. A fresh influx of high-paid professionals of all races and their families. A suspicious number of the women start giving birth to black babies, and after a while, someone starts taking notice of the ones who protest they've never slept with a black man in their life. Then one of the locals recalls the old children's rhymes about the Randyman...
