A coalition of more than 25 black pastors — mainly from Georgia — recently called out Democratic Senate candidate Rev. Raphael Warnock over his support for abortion ahead of the Peach State's Jan. 5 runoff elections.

Later in the letter, the pastors also entreated Warnock to change course over the devastation that abortion has wreaked on the black community. They pointed out that the abortion movement was begun with the premise of racism and white supremacy and today continues to disproportionately harm black Americans.

"Can you in good conscience defend abortion, knowing that abortion kills 474 Black babies for every 1000 live births?" the pastors asked.

"For all of the above reasons, we entreat you to reconsider your public advocacy for abortion," they concluded. "We implore you to uphold the Biblical defense of life and to fight against the systemic racism of abortion."

Now that's just absolute horseshit. Abortion has been around since women understood how babies were created. It doesn't now, nor has it ever been predicated upon "racist" anything.

Black women do tend to have a significantly higher number of abortions, but that's due to the fact that they're more likely to not be in a financial position to afford more children. Having an abortion affords them the option of not being forced to have children they can't afford (which is not different than white women, but white women tend to be in a position to be able to afford more children as a general rule).

They are probably referring to the myth that Margaret Sanger supported abortion as a tool of eugenics against black babies. The truth is, she very specifically opposed that, as anyone who has read her biography knows. Not to mention Martin Luther King was a fan of hers.

Wait a minute, are you suggesting that there was some poorly thought out attempt at a "gotcha" when this thread was posted?

I'm shocked. Shocked and colored surprised.

Almost as shocked as I am that the right has gotten so clumsy with their dogwhistles that they can't even get the code words right anymore.

Evangelist Alveda King is outraged at comments by Georgia Democrat Senate candidate Raphael Warnock that she says appear intent on stoking anger and resentment.

The director of Civil Rights for the Unborn for Priests for Life, King appeared last week on Fox and Friends First, where she said Warnock will “misuse the Bible to defend indefensible positions” on abortion and other prominent issues.

“He cares nothing about … our babies in the womb,” the evangelist added. “I wish Rev. Warnock would read the Bible for real.”

She said Warnock and Jon Ossoff – both Democrats running in the Georgia U.S. Senate runoff – “are adept at teaching fear, anger, stirring up bitterness. It’s called playing the race card.”
