Deval Patrick, Massachusetts Governor, Signs Transgender Equal Rights Bill Into Effect

Massachusetts officially became the 16th state to treat transgender citizens as a protected class
today as Governor Deval Patrick hosted a ceremonial signing of the groundbreaking rights bill.

This law is about affirming rights," Gunner Scott, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition (MTPC),
is quoted by Bay Windows as saying. "This law is for people who think they can deny us those rights...
This piece of paper is not magic, but for many of us it is the result of hard work that will change our lives."

Barack Obama eloquently congratulated the Boston Bruins on their first Stanley Cup Victory in 39 years.

Boston Bruins meet Obama at the White House 1/23/12

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0u-BjiJGJtk

With a game against the Capitals on Tuesday, the Stanley Cup champions made their celebratory trip to the White House on Monday.

While describing the Bruins' season, Obama cracked jokes about Brad Marchand's nickname, while making sure to remember how high
the Cup was in the extended arms of Zdeno Chara.

(Who named Marchand "Little Ball of Hate?)

(Zdeno Chara is wicked tall)

Obama even recognized Tim Thomas's brilliant performances in the net, though Thomas decided not to attend.

Chiarelli also said that he will not hold Thomas' absence against him, as the event was not mandatory, and Thomas' decision was his to make.

"I can require someone to attend a team event. If they don't, I can suspend him," Chiarelli said. "I'm not suspending Tim. Whatever his position is,

it isn't reflective of the Boston Bruins nor my own. But I'm not suspending him."

Tim Thomas's statement-

"I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People.

This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and

the Founding Fathers vision for the Federal government.

Because I believe this, today I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party,
as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country.

This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL.

This is the only public statement I will be making on this topic. TT"

(New England tradition of having one family member that is sure to provide
embarrassment and shame at any event.)

It's too early in the morning for Patriot madness. *sigh* I had better get on it, already. Will there be snow?

INDIANAPOLIS -- Here is what can be expected from Super Bowl coverage today:

Noon -- Coverage from Patriots send-off rally at Gillette Stadium

(No red hoodies, ever, again!)

5:15 p.m. -- Photos taken of Patriots arrival in Indianapolis (Giants arrive Monday)

Situated safely in the warm sector, southern and central New England will be treated to another warm one for the first day
of February. Despite much cloudiness and limited sunshine, it should spike up to 50-55 degrees! Boston’s record high for that
date is 66 in 1989.

A year ago, the snowbanks were as high as an elephant’s eye and roofs were collapsing.
Boston’s seasonal snowfall had already reached a whopping 60 inches!

You needed to waste an Alt, to say this? I may be lame, but at least, I am lame under the label of my own handle.

Tonight, on Greater Boston, wgbh TV- Kevin White-

Plenty of drama-

Kevin White- Facing the audience at the Boston Garden when the
Rolling Stones were arrested, and making a deal with the audience.

" Be good, or no Rolling Stones."

"They will be here in 2 hours."

(I was there for the next night's concert.)

The Busing Issue

The Busing Riots

Kevin White made the decision to not send the police into Roxbury, Mattapan, Jamaica Plain, or Dorchester.

The drama over his third term- Big Headline said yes, he would run.
The reality was that he had decided against running again.

Kevin White's comments about the Boston press-

"The press became more competitive." "More combative." "There is less camaraderie."

Boston takes note-

Komen foundation cuts off cancer screening grants to Planned Parenthood

The Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts expressed “deep disappointment” and blamed it on “anti-women’s health groups” that have launched boycotts of the well-known breast cancer charity for partnering with Planned Parenthood on cancer screenings.

Over the past five years, those Planned Parenthood health centers that received Komen program funding provided nearly 170,000 clinical breast exams out of the more than 4 million clinical breast exams performed nationwide at Planned Parenthood health centers; clinicians under the grants wrote more than 6,400 mammogram referrals out of 70,000 mammogram referrals issued from Planned Parenthood clinics.

“At a time when women’s health has been under attack, it’s a sad commentary that our two organizations won’t be working together since we both have similar missions,” Dianne Luby, president of the Massachusetts Planned Parenthood said in an interview. “Komen has appeared to succumbed to political pressure from a vocal minority and it leaves women in the lurch. We hope they’ll reconsider.”

{A rant from gsgs}

Please play the Who's song- Won't Get Fooled, Again?

Vornado, the Tornado ruined the Downtown Crossing shopping district and left an enormous pit.
Vornado squeezed as much money as possible from Boston, then left for New York, to squeeze
money out of a bigger city.

Waiting to see if Milennium and Vornado will double team Boston for another beating and
another black eye for Downtown Crossing.

Waiting to see Millennium's new and revised development plan for the former Filene’s site.

We will see the plans within 60 days ? Construction resume on the property within a year?

I'll believe it, when I see it. Millennium has developed the Ritz Carlton Hotel and Towers nearby,
and is currently building Hayward Place residences across from the Ritz.

So, there may be some hope that something good will happen. The old front facade of Filenes
is wrapped in construction plastic. The old brick back end of Filenes is still standing.
It looks like a horrible reminder of 9/11.

Two hulking wrecks occupying something that resembles Ground Zero NYC.
A truly ugly reminder of the part that Boston played in the 9/11 horror.

Thanks, Steven Roth. Are you a member of the 1%, now?

Steven Roth left for New York Summer 2008.
Is it to much to ask for, to see new construction- in the Summer of 2013?

Happy horse pucky from Menino? read it here-

In other news, the Lower Cape Cod town of Turo is forcing the destruction of a huge temple to wealth.

I'm wondering if it is the same place I took pictures from, many years ago.

The view was astounding.

You could see the tip of the arm of P-Town and another arm of land, on the other side.
No obstructions of any kind. Nothing, but ocean and what looked like, was two islands, very far away.
Brewster? Jeremy Point? The ground breaking had just started. We both regretted this view
would belong to just one owner. The land had the ocean on one side, and a beach road with a view
to another hill behind it, to a small lake, in a valley. At the time, a reasonable sized home was plotted out.
A nice place for a couple and a couple of children. A modern version of a Cape Cod saltbox, small and cozy.

They added onto the original building, and it turned into a 6,800 sq. ft. monster. Tall and wide,
it blocked off everyone's view. Mega-mansion on the sea view. An ugly enormous blot.

I took pics before anything was built. My Ogre husband was with me. It was on the Cape Cod Bay side.

Fun in Kenmore Square this weekend?

Super Bowl celebrating?

February 2, 2012

OWS is quiet and the Boston police are patting their student crushers. Will their little guys get a work out?

Will the Boston police force practice their "Kettling" skills? Use some pepper spray?

Shoot someone in the eye socket and kill a student who is an innocent bystander?

Occupy Boston has an ambassador on the Boston Police force. He's a really good guy. Politics count in Boston.

People who are ready to party in the street, not so much. Unless it is First Night or Fourth of July. $$$$$$$$$

Mayor Thomas Menino and Police Commissioner Edward Davis

Killjoys

Police will step up patrols and video monitoring near Kenmore Square and North Station, where fans often congregate.

Access to those areas will be restricted after the third quarter to discourage street crowds near bars and restaurants.

Alcohol and drunken driving laws will be strictly enforced.

Colleges say students arrested may also face punishment from their schools.

Maybe they should open up Gillette Stadium for a really huge Tailgate Party!

Patriots Fans-

Mixed families are having Tragedy and Comedy wars. Some members will cry, some will laugh their heads off.

I missed another Cambridge celebrity circus. Do they still drive those kind of cars?

I'll bet that the overgrown younglings were even more nasty, than they were last year.

It is New York's turn to crow and celebrate.

February 5, 2012

Meanwhile, in MA-

14 Arrested

University of Massachusetts students rioted in the Southwest Residential Area on the Amherst campus
following the New England Patriots' 21-17 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday night.

Officers issued a dispersal order at 10:08 p.m., about 15 minutes after the crowd stated gathering,
and used flash-bang and smoke grenades to disperse the crowd. Riot squads and police on horseback
marched through the crowd minutes after that.

By the time riot squads intervened firecrackers and other fireworks had been set off, glass bottles smashed,
one building scaled by one student, and at least one fight had broken out in the middle of a large mass of
rowdy rioters. At least one student was restrained by a group of three officers in riot gear.

OTOH

Kenmore Square was dead and empty. Students in Boston watched how rough the police play,
in 2012 and decided it was not worth it?

No huge celebration and no one threw a huge fit over losing in Boston.

Northeastern students warned to stay indoors Sunday night or face arrest
days before the Superbowl.

"If you do choose to go outside during or after the Superbowl, know that you will likely be questioned and
directed to go somewhere indoors as quickly as possible. If you refuse, you are subject to immediate arrest.
Since an arrest could have serious consequences with OSCCR, for co-ops & jobs you apply for later, and your
visa status if you are an international student ...just stay inside!"

BU party- (HD JumboTron!) free ice skating, food, and drinks on Comm Ave.

I'm sure they rode herd on BC students somehow. Nice stadium.

Private "viewings" all over the state and an arrest free night, for the rest.

Dr. Zeitel phones in to the local WBZ and says a few words about Adele's performance at the Grammys.

Mass General, home of a Star Dr. I lurve House MD, but this man is the real thing! Yeah, Boston!

My arms are like vermicelli. No use for a shovel this winter. I had learned to cover my snow fort igloo with slush, when I was a tiny youngling.

Freezes up real nice. Normally. Way back when, we used to get a winter in Boston. Fairy Snow predicted for this coming Saturday night.

Had some Fairy Snow last week. No skiing this year. Or ice skating. Or sledding. Frog Pond is probably half melted.

Watch out for the cooling pipes hidden in the puddle. Catch a blade and break your neck. yikes

This has been the mildest winter I can remember and I ain't complainin'. Snow stopped being fun a long time ago.

Boston did not burn up enough fuel oil, this un-winter.
The oil company is taking it out of Boston's hide, in another way.
$5.00 per gallon of gasoline. Coming soon, to a gas pump near you!

The Station nightclub fire killed 100 people nine years ago, Monday.

The fire began Feb. 20, 2003, when a flashy pyrotechnics display from the band Great White set ablaze cheap soundproofing foam
on the walls and ceilings of the nightclub. It was the fourth-deadliest nightclub fire in U.S. history, and more than 200 people also
were injured.

Rhode Island filmmaker David Bettencourt is compiling stories about the fire for a documentary set to premiere next year to mark
the 10th anniversary of the fire.

Road rage? Or Beavis and Butthead? fire fire fire

FALL RIVER —

Luis Cotto, the man who was driving the tractor trailer that burst into flames in Fall River on Sunday, said that the crash
was the result of a road rage incident involving gunfire directed at his vehicle.

Cotto, 42, of Taunton, was driving a 1992 FLD tractor truck on route 79 South near the Braga Bridge when the crash took place.
Cotto’s vehicle struck the barrier on the right side of the roadway at 6:05 a.m.

Cotto told WCVB-TV ABC 5 that he heard a series of gunshots before his fuel tank exploded. The truck rode along a guardrail
before striking a steel support, and the crash ignited a wooden scaffold that was attached to the support for ongoing
construction work there.

State police issued a statement Monday that the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
They declined to comment on a potential cause of the accident.
