Background, if you didn't hear: http://omg.yahoo.com/news/jessica-alba-lashes-out-at-bill-o-reilly-for-insinuating-shes-dumb/18142

So, my response to each one individually:

TMZ.com - Most of your staff spent their college years passed out on a sofa with marker all over their faces from the previous night's kegger. You're in no position to school someone just because you have access to the internet.

Bill - I know the little girl scares you. Suck it up.

Jessica - The proper response should've been you being gracious, but pointing out that little historical nugget. Instead, you pretended that you knew about Sweden all along to make yourself look smart. You didn't - you meant the Swiss.

That last one is speculation. She was, in fact, right about Sweden. The fuss made about her Sweden remark, in fact, showed without any doubt that everyone else was ignorant of the facts. Even if she did mean the Swiss - which is not at all even remotely certain - she was right about the Swedish.

Jessica won that fight - at the very worst, though, her opponents defeated themselves right at her feet. Everyone else proved themselves to be dumb. She was proven right - by accident or not.

ETA: "Be Sweden about it" is. historically. accurate. And if Joe Biden can get away with flubbing stuff - which, Jessica Alba factually did not do - then people need to lay off of Jessica Alba. Seriously. She was right in throwing down the gauntlet.

But, Sweden was neutral in WWII. And has remained so ever since, never joining NATO.

So a dumb actress, a dumb anchor and a dumb website are mad at each other. They need to get along because there is only so much dumb to go around.

Yup. Switzerland as the quintessential model of neutrality during WW-II is a perception based on ignorance. There were other neutral countries during the time.

She got her opposition to make total idiots of themselves.

Jessica Alba FTW. O'Reilly got his ass handed to him again.

Dude, there's no doubt. She meant the Swiss. The expression is "Be Swiss about it", which means to be agnostic. (Not to mention that she should've said "Be Swedish about it".)

I don't think anyone involved knew their history. Jessica was right, but not terribly current, which makes me convinced it was an accident.

You mean she can't come up with her own saying?

I would have said she was too dumb to do so, but after reading the Encyclopedia Brittanica myself, there's simply no arguing with right. And I mean right as in historically right, not right as in whether she chose the correct country for the construction of a cliche.

And Jessica may be more accurate than we realize. Swiss "neutrality" is worthy of question after a certain treaty they signed up for in June 2005.

You should consider re-thinking that. Srsly.
