This is what we get with buying into your "user friendly" product "WinBLOWS".

Countless lockups, more freezes than an Antarctic cold front, enough bugs to make a Louisiana bayou jealous and a product that crashes enough to invite scrutiny by the NTSB.

And now if we want to lay down and spread'em for you again we have to jump through endless hoops just to activate.

And for what?

Really....when we finally get tired of all this crap we may just find out that real life can be as much fun and decidedly more so at times than watching the blue screen tell us of it's fatal errors.

And when we do......sayonara Bill.

We were so kind as to grant you a monopoly....so why don't you make a decent product....that actually works with what I have now.

[close rant program]

I know that Windows is buggy. Hell, it has its shortcomings with how it handles things, to be sure. BUT, it is hard to write and OS that caters to EVERYONE, since everyone wants something different.

I too don't like that they add more bells and whistles with each 'upgrade' (which I don't do unless I need a new computer, and mine's doing fine, thank you). But still, one can't complain. Its impressive what they can do nowadays.

And, if I may, I'd love to point to a Onion article written in this gesture. I'm not saying you're the recptionist, but I think everyone is at one time or another (hell, I've got several apps running right now!)

Ye olde Onion article

I had every single one of those messages for the last 3 weeks.

I finally fixed it.. for now..

My complaint: it's impossible for a Microsuck layman to remove that stupid MSN shortcut from the desktop. With every other program, all you have to do is right click and go to delete, but not with Microsoft's stuff.

I guess that's that advantage of having a Monopoly on the operating system.

Ah well. I'm tired of Microsoft's tyranny. Next time I get a computer, which might be years, I'm going to pay the extra $ for an apple. Sure, by then they might be totally obsolete, but at least I will be free from the evil empire.

I don't have the MSN shortcut on my desktop...

There's no reason you shouldn't be able to remove it. Try some white out.

Two of my favorite things about Windows:

After several hours of heavy use, your PC will slow down, and you have to reboot your system to speed it up again. Good thing they don't make cars.

To turn off your computer, click on START.

*Sits back and smiles holding up and apple with one bite out of it* Ahhhh :) Stability :)

WinBLOWS

~laughing so hard my sides hurt~ I know EXACTLY what you mean and my question is:

If the computer is smart enough to tell me there is a problem why can't it be smart enough to tell me how to fix it?

Here is a page I found while surfing the net for answers to my endless computer problems

It has a program on it, that will tell you what the error messages are.. I don't think this is for the BSOD kind of errors.. just those annoying.. "This program has performed an illegal operation" kind

http://www.gregorybraun.com/

Lots of other things too.. i just haven't looked it over real closely.

so fly..if you get a job you might be able to get a real machine that doesn't bark at you so much....so boring

i dont have the microsoft stuff on my desktop either.. i deleted it eventually. it told me i couldnt. so i went and downloaded TweakUI and took care of it that way (you dont need this program if you have win98). i took care of lots of other things that way too

things on your desktop

...are the fault of the person who installed your OS and pre-loaded some software, not the OS vendor.

You want to talk confusing? How about Apple's famous trashcan? Want to erase a file, drag it to the trash....right? Want to eject a disk? Drag it to the trashcan. How carefully thought out was THAT? *LOL*

MS gets lots of things wrong. So does Apple, so does freaking Oracle for crying out loud. Rant all you like, nobody forced you to buy the MS operating system, and you can use that very same hardware and install OpenBSD or FreeBSD or a variety of flavors of linux. Take charge, use that energy to your advantage.

It's a monopoly alright -

My hard drive blew up a couple of weeks ago. Dell sent me a new one and talked me through installing it. The biggest hitch? No one at Dell or at my ISP could figure out how to stop Winblows from trying to open up a dialup MSN account whenever I tried to activate my CABLE MODEM. It took hours and numerous consultations for Dell to figure out how to bypass all that crap.

Having bought a lemon Dell that has already had the hard drive, the monitor and the video card replaced since I got in in January, I am intent on moving to MacWorld when this one really dies. i can't stomach ever getting XP, the new IE, or anything from those crooks.

Microsoft proves it's a monopoly every three days. Has anyone noticed that they've just made the lawyer who conned the GOP into dropping the case a key Microsoft official so that he doesn't have to answer any embarrassing public questions about who he lobbied or what he said, or paid...?

I haven't ever had problems with any computer that I've gotten except the Compaq and the Dell....

Anytime I need support on my no-name custom clunker, I just call up the place where I got it and it's a really easy fix. There also isn't any conflicts caused by too many over-monied vendors trying to make their product dominate your OS.

So Microsoft has a monopoly...I'm a lot less pissed about it because it's an American company that actually has some sort of say in how technology moves forward.

As in, Java may be an incredibly great technology, but we don't like it because we don't control it so XP doesn't have it and you have to download it (which few AOL types will do), so MS's muscle till destroy a progressive technology. That's getting pretty close to WHY the government has historically regulated monopolies, or at least beaten them away with sticks now and then.

You're correct about that. But Microsfot got it's ass kicked down when it tried to push NetBEUI instead of TCP/IP as the best network protocol. They eventually realized that they can't buy everything and now it's their default protocol.

I meant that I like that it isn't some foreign company that controls us from the shadow of Mt. Fuji. It was meant mostly in jest. :)

don't say that too loud...

...unless you want him to do it.
It's such a cute ass!

;)

But yeah, every time I hear someone complain about Windblows, I'm glad to stick with my Mac.

Hey Wabbit dear ..

so nice to see your old av back up ... ;)

i missed those sweet cheeks ....

I told Bill Gates to Kiss my ass a long time ago, and I threw his bullshit Windows in the trash. I have a computer now that works for me, I don't have to work for it. It's a better machine and has the operating system Bill Gates has been trying to copy and keep up with for years. I'll never use Windows again, been there, done that. My software choices are limited, but any program worth having will produce a version for my big, powerful, friendly tool and toy that asks so little and delivers a lot. I don't work for the company, I'm just shouting to all of you wallowing in Dosland that there's a better way to travel in cyberspace. What a smooth ride.

Back to your regular program.

The computer is the hardware. The OS is the software.
Don't like Windoze? Buy a different OS. You can buy Apple's OS 10.1 for pc's or you can buy Windoze for an apple.

I'm also an apple man. I urge everyone using microsoft products to go to the nearest apple store for a demo. Apple's OS 10.1 works a little differently from Windoze but at least their products don't have the taint of the evil lord Gates.

Thanks...

OS on a PC...?

Vedddy interesting.

I have been considering using and learning Linux..just concerned about hardware compatibility and some software stuff. I don't use it too much for anything other than email, text documents and some very minor graphics junk. Oh and web surfing...or does only coming here count as surfing???

Thanks to my lovely bella....;)

and you too LM!
