"How do they think they got a majority in the South anyway?" Clinton told CNN outside a business luncheon he was attending Wednesday. "I think what they are really upset about is that he made public their strategy."

He added: "They try to suppress black voting, they ran on the Confederate flag in Georgia and South Carolina, and from top to bottom the Republicans supported it."

Gee. It's nice to see that he looks down on the whole South like that. Where was he from again?

Ok yeah he was an idiot for thinking out loud.

But...

"In Georgia, Democratic incumbent Roy Barnes was defeated by the GOP's Sonny Perdue, who promised voters a referendum on whether to return the Confederate emblem to a position of prominence on the state flag. In South Carolina, some political analysts have said Republican Mark Sanford's defeat of Gov. Jim Hodges could be attributed in part to Hodges' decision to remove the Confederate flag from atop the state capitol".

He wasn't wrong about the flag think. Is it that far a stretch to say that if the republican candidates are pushing that as an issue that they are reaching out to a specific demographic of voters?

Depends if your using liberal as a noun or adjective I suppose.

Unlike the hype...

I can bet Clinton's middle name "Jefferson" wasn't picked for Thomas (Jefferson), but more like Jefferson (Davis)! He failed to mention that half those senators used to be Dems. How can the Dem-Soc's say that kind of shit, knowing full well it was the Repubs that pushed through the 1964 Civil Rights Act by over 80% of the vote? History well bears out the real racists. :D

Nice to see someone besides Trent Lott shoot his mouth off without thinking.

What a dick.

Perdue won the election in GA because his incumbent opponent was a hot air blowhard who somehow managed to piss off a lot of voters. When was the last time a teacher's union refused to endorse a Democrat? He did. The crowning blow was when the state fell to #50 in SAT scores after he bragged about his education reform. The flag flap wasn't even a blip on the screen, and will never appear on a referendum.

Bottom line - the incumbent governor was fired for poor job performance. The only good thing he accomplished while in office was dumping the state flag.

I don't know where that quote came from, but it couldn't be further from the truth.

I haven't seen it in print yet (wonder why) but it got worse. In so many words he said Republicans were angry with Lott because he exposed the Republican's Southern Strategy. In other words, segregation.

Great way to pick up Democratic votes in the South, Bill.

Clinton is a piece of shit.

I did not see that at all

I read the article and saw that Clinton jsut made a statement about
the way the Republicans do things. He made no such statement
that all Republicans and all southerners were racist. I come
from Alabama. I lived there during the worse of the racial
problems. There are a lot of southeners that are still racist and
there are a lot that are not. I have noticed that one class
are
the worse. They are mostly Republicans and mostly members
of certain christian sects. There are democrats that are racist
and many christians that are not. Alabama is now largely
black as well as other southern states where the most slaves existed
They are becomming more and more numerous and one day
will surpass so called white people. One example is Birmingham
where the most violent racial problems came to a head. Today
black people are basically in charge of Birmingham.
Most blacks are democrats. I will stick by that statement. In the
past the democratic party stood mostly for the poor. Most of the
poor in the soiuth are black and there is no way these people
are going to support the republican party. The Republican party
knows this and are doing all they can to keep the black voter
from being heard. I think that what Bubba meant.
OH AND JUST FOR THE RECORD> IF HE WERE STILL PRESIDENT
WE WOULD BE WORKING AND BE ABLE TO LIVE. IS YOUR LUST
FOR MAINTAINING YOUR OIL GUZZLING LIFESTYLE WORTH THE PRICE PAID AND THE
COST YET TO COME. SO YOU TAKE YOUR REPUBLICANS AND YOUR
GEORGIE W. AND SHOVE HIM FAR UP YOUR ASS . THAT WAY HE
WILL BE IN GOOD COMPANY

10/10 for idiot post of the day:)

If a flag is a symbol of racism....

Why did William the Chickenshit allow this during his SIX terms as governor? Oh yeah people can change, unless you're a conservative!

Arkansas code 1-5-107:
1-5-107. Confederate Flag Day.
(a) The Saturday immediately preceding Easter Sunday of each year is designated as "Confederate Flag Day" in this state.
(b) No person, firm, or corporation shall display any Confederate flag or replica thereof in connection with any advertisement of any commercial enterprise, or in any manner for any purpose except to honor the Confederate States of America.
(c) Any person, firm, or corporation violating the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be fined not less than one hundred dollars ($100) nor more than one thousand dollars ($1,000).

*Still in effect...:D

Excellent post, nyminus. Honest Republicans will assess the campaign tactics that are actively used by their party in the south---John McCain has made comments about it. The southern Christian Coalition dominates the Republican Party---someone besides McCain needs to get a sac and call them out on it. Lott getting the boot is step one.

Chafee, Snowe, Hagel, and Powell don't approve---it'll take awhile for the message board masses to grow some pubes.

Gee, let me think....which party did George Wallace belong to? He was the dick who physically blocked a black student from registering at the University of Alabama.

Which party does Sen. Robert Byrd belong to? The guy who belonged to the Klan. The one who recently used the "N" word on national TV.

Which party did the Governor of GA belong to when they added the Confederate emblem to the state flag as an act of defiance aginst school desegregation?

Anyone can play that game.

Actually...

Our former governer David Beasly, a republican, supported the removal of the flag because it was such a divisive issue in our state. The republicans turned on him and that is a big reason Jim Hodges (a democrat) was elected in the first place. The flag would have come down regardless.

Having gotten Beasley out of the way, the republicans came back to the fold and elected Sanford.
