Ever wonder just what the hell that means?

The Macaroni Club in London was very fashionable in high society, and the fashion at the time was to wear feathers. The song was a dig at the goofy American cousins at the time of the Revolution. Imagine one of those backwoods Americans riding into town on a pony thinking he was fashionable too just because he stuck a feather in his cap.

There are a lot of songs we know from childhood that we've sung for years and have no friggin' idea what they mean.

I know everyone's probably aware that Ring-Around-The-Rosie is about the Black death (victims of the Plague got black rings surrounding red boils on their skin, poseys (flowers) were thrown on corpses ("a pocket full of poseys), then burnt ("Ashes, ashes") etc.)

"London Bridge is falling down" because the damn thing burnt down a dozen times in the Middle Ages. More than just a bridge, it also housed several shops, and fire codes were not very good apparently.
