Depends on the dorm. I've seen dorms where the room mates shared one room and there were bathrooms/showers at either end of the hallway that everyone on the floor used, I've seen dorm room setups where you'd have two rooms with two people each, and a bathroom between them, and I've also seen a setup where three rather small dorm rooms shared an entryway with a hallway closet and a bathroom. Lots of flexibility for a dorm room design, but you'll get more flexibility in an apartment.
 
dorms differ widely in design. most modern ones have semiprivate bathrooms. older ones are more collective.
