Biden steps up to defend America against domestic terrorism — after years of it being ignored

After years of attacks from domestic terrorists, President Joe Biden is moving forward with efforts to ensure such terrorism is tracked and stopped in the United States.

The New York Times reported Sunday that Biden's first big step was acknowledging that the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 was an act of terror. Former President Donald Trump still maintains that the protesters were nice to police officers.

During his presidency, Trump directed federal agencies to focus their resources to target Antifa and left-leaning groups despite intelligence groups maintaining that the far-right militias were more of a threat to the U.S.

"In an intelligence report delivered to Congress last month, the administration labeled white supremacists and militia groups as top national security threats," said the Times. "The White House is also discussing with members of Congress the possibility of new domestic terrorism legislation and executive orders to update the criteria of terrorism watch lists to potentially include more homegrown extremists."

The Department of Homeland Security is moving forward with a review on how it handles domestic extremism, after declaring it a "national priority" for the first time this year. Making it the official priority means a large amount of money for the department will be allocated to the project.

"Mr. Biden bolstered a team focusing on domestic extremism at the National Security Council that had been depleted in the past four years, assigning officials from the Justice Department, the F.B.I. and the National Counterterrorism Center, according to senior administration officials," the Times also said.

Attorney General Merrick Garland is at work investigating the Jan. 6 attack and prosecute insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol building.

It's doubleplus good that Big Brother is focusing his efforts on wrongthinkers here in Airstrip Two, and that he means to unperson them.

One election can make a huge difference in a nation.

When Trump was in office, he went around the country and threw hate filled rallies where he incited violence against Latinos, Syrian refugees, Muslims, Central American refugees, Christine Blasey Ford, Gretchen Whitmer, investigative journalists, and Democrats like Hillary Clinton, Barak Obama and Joseph Biden.

And he called domestic terrorists "very fine people" while simultaneously cutting funding for dealing with domestic terrorism.

Now, President Biden is increasing funding for combatting domestic terrorism while NOT validating the irrational hatreds of right-wing extremists and NOT inciting violence!

Who says your vote doesn't matter?

Every word a lie, including "and" and "the." But please, carry on.

Biden’s domestic terrorism approach will harm Black Americans

The terrorists are here. At least, that’s the message the Biden administration sent the American people in a recent press briefing, when the White House announced a multi-prong approach to combating the threat posed by domestic extremism. The move comes in direct response to the now-infamous Capitol riot — the incident in January when a pro-Trump mob breached the Capitol building.

This policy is nonsense. And it undermines the president’s goals of addressing racial issues in the United States. After all, if history tells us anything, it’s that Black people are the ones who are going to be hurt by this policy.

We’ve got a decades-long backlog of bad counterterrorism policies that have failed to make us safer, wasted billions, trampled civil liberties and unequivocally harmed minority communities. The reality of the terror threat is miniscule. Researchers found that the lifetime probability of any one person on earth being killed in a terror attack to be about 1 in 80,000 — the same likelihood as being killed by a comet or asteroid. The risk for Americans is even lower.

While this is harmful to all Americans who value their freedom and privacy, black people and communities of color will bear the brunt of this overreach. Biden and co. know exactly what happens to minority communities when the government confronts “problems at home” by using the heavy hand of the state. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, for instance, the FBI used its infamous Counter Intelligence Program or COINTELPRO to spy on, infiltrate and otherwise undermine the civil rights movement under the auspices of “national security.” This included dogged attempts to derail the work of supposedly dangerous dissidents like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

I agree. The US can again sit at the grownup table.

“What is most concerning is that the number of domestic terror plots and attacks are at the highest they have been in decades,” said Seth Jones, director of the database project at CSIS, a nonpartisan Washington-based nonprofit that specializes in national security issues. “It’s so important for Americans to understand the gravity of the threat before it gets worse.”

More than a quarter of right-wing incidents and just under half of the deaths in those incidents were caused by people who showed support for white supremacy or claimed to belong to groups espousing that ideology, the analysis shows.

Victims of all incidents in recent years represent a broad cross-section of American society, including Blacks, Jews, immigrants, LGBTQ individuals, Asians and other people of color who have been attacked by right-wing extremists wielding vehicles, guns, knives and fists.

Dozens of religious institutions — including mosques, synagogues and Black churches — as well as abortion clinics and government buildings, have been threatened, burned, bombed and hit with gunfire over the past six years.

100% TRUTH

The Mexican Border is a mess. They caught a couple trying to come in already. It's not that hard to get across. Who knows when they succeed.

There's nothing new in that. We're a nation of folks who slipped in without papers being in order. And our immigration laws have been a mess for decades. If the Republicans in Congress would change from a "just say no" decade-and-a-half policy, maybe we could make the laws coherent.

Now, as ever, the fix to the immigration policy is to help make it safe and desirable for people to remain in their countries. They aren't on move because conditions are tolerable where they lived. The solution has always been right there to be worked on.

BLM and Antifa, now that sort of intimidation is a planned part of their toolset.

I would consider that domestic terrorism.

Everyone is now aware that if a cop makes a mistake,
they will burn down the very places where
they live, work and shop.

:(

He's just going to turn the country over to the foreign terrorists.

Indeed.

They are welcome.

The only danger is those who would vote against that.

Everyone knows that this country is inherently evil...
It makes one wonder, if it's so bad, then why do they come?
Is it because they desire law and order? Is that why they break the law?

That fire was started by right-wing infiltrators.

They want to give a negative connotation to the word "peaceful."

Another word that has expanded and shifting meaning in the 21st century.

Sometime ago, people were asking, “Are there any adults left in the Republican Party?”

It seems to me that there are not.

You see, while Biden is stepping up to protect America from domestic terrorism, the Republicans seem intent to defend the terrorists, incite the terrorists or campaign for the votes of the terrorists. I mean, let’s take a look at recent events here in the United States of America.

Domestic terrorist Cesar Sayoc mailed pipe bombs to Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Senator Kamala Harris, former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, actor Robert De Niro, former U.S. President Barack Obama, former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, U.S. Senator and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as well as other public figures who have been critical of Donald Trump.

Much more recently, a group of right-wing terrorists who call themselves the Wolverine Watchmen plotted to kidnap Governor Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan and ignite a “civil war”.

And more recently still, a group of armed criminals stalked a campaign bus that was in Texas to promote Joseph Biden’s candidacy. They used pickup trucks to box in the campaign bus and tried to force it off the road. They also rammed an SUV that was traveling with the campaign bus.

And of course there was the violent attempt to overthrow the U.S. government when hundreds of armed Trump supporters stormed the Capitol, assaulted police officers and attempted to kill Nancy Pelosi and Mike Pence and coerce members of Congress into certifying Trump as the winner of the 2020 election.

These acts of violence and domestic terrorism have been encouraged, rationalized and praised by right-wing forces in America such as Donald Trump, Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingraham and Fox “news” Channel. They try to make the terrorists sound like patriots, and they try to make their victims sounds like criminals.

Of course, now that there’s an adult in the White House, we see some of these Republicans trying to distance themselves from the terrorists.

Now, Laura Ingraham is trying to say that the thugs who stormed the Capitol were probably not Trump supporters....even though they themselves said that they were following Trump’s orders and that their ultimate goal was to kill Nancy Pelosi and get the remaining members of Congress to certify Trump as the legitimate president of the United States.

Tucker Carlson claims that we “may never know the truth” about who stormed the Capitol and why they did it.

We have over 20,000 hours of video of the armed insurrectionalists and their own testimony about what they did and why they did it. But the Republicans are childishly claiming they have no idea who they were.

Biden is going to have an uphill battle on domestic terrorism. The Republicans are going to dig their heels in and do everything they can to obstruct him and validate the terrorists.

Defending against ANTIFA and BLM should keep them busy, plenty of evidence of domestic terrorism in blue shitholes.

In refusing to convict Donald Trump for his crimes against democracy, the Republican Party has announced that Republican presidents are above the law and can act with impunity, as kings or dictators do — and that this is now true for Republican officials on the federal, local and state level as well.

In total, the Republican Party has created a precedent that right-wing political violence and terrorism, including coups and other attempts to overthrow legal elections, are now acceptable in the United States — as long as they are perpetrated by Republicans and their allies against Democrats and others deemed to be "un-American."

This is the essence of fascism and authoritarianism. Such beliefs and values have broad support among Republican voters and other members of the right wing more generally.

Recent public opinion polling and other research shows that Trump Republicans believe that political violence is a reasonable tool for them to advance their goals. This all but guarantees that Trump's coup plot and attack on the Capitol are a blueprint to be followed by members of the white right across the country.

The Republican Party's embrace of Trumpism and now full-on endorsement of right-wing violence and terrorism should not be a surprise. Trump's 2016 presidential victory and fake right-wing "populist" movement was fueled by white supremacy, nativism, and other forms of bigotry and hate.
