Perhaps because the right has a very, very long history of duping Democrats into falling all over themselves to apologise for some shortcoming on our part, only to discover a week or a month later that the accusation was bullshit in the first place. Is the complaint legitimate this time? Only time will tell.

Going to be a much harder task in the USA where you can't just "progress" someone off to gulag in the middle of the night because they're a pain in your ass.
