Biden now owns the government. That should not make him happy

President-elect Joseph R. Biden is not happy at all. Expectations are now very high, and he no longer has a built-in excuse for why he can’t do all the crazy things on the progressives’ chore list. He will not be able to, as he so often has, avoid accountability for any failings. He will spend the duration of his term trying to navigate the very choppy waters between his party’s moderates and its progressives.

In short, he and his team now own the government and everything it does. That’s never a good place to be, nor is it sustainable for any length of time.

No, Biden does not own the government yet (nor, I think, will he act like he owns it even after he takes office). We are still in a Trump/Republican administration and it will take six months or more to recover from that even after Biden takes office.

You Trumpettes share in an ownership of the Trump "administration," which we still are in.

Yes, Biden inherited a chaotic mess from Trump, just like Obama inherited one from the previous Republican administration. It will take a long time to clean it up and recover.

So what else is new?

Oh, so winning the presidency, the house and the senate is a bad thing for Biden? lol

Shut the fuck up, miles.

Real galaxy brain take there, bud.

Many of those Dems in the house and senate are not on the same page as Biden ideologically; his main opposition will be those on the far left of the party, so it isn't going to be the dream scenario you think. Democrat divisions are going to be exposed big time.

Just like any other president takes over.

So what's your point, you old, foggy-brained buffoon?

Rightists are so stupid.

The one thing I learned very quickly about Trump supporters.....is that they're not particularly interesting or clever. I believe the correct term for them is "Dullards"

I don't care what he does or doesn't get accomplished. Either way, your Trump god cost republicans the house, senate and presidency and caused a riot where 4 people died and many more are facing hefty jail sentences for storming the capital. That is vindication enough for me, cupcake. ;)

AOC tells progressives to ‘push Biden hard’ on canceling student loan debt

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez renewed her push for President-elect Joe Biden to bypass Congress and cancel billions of dollars in student loan debt when he assumes the White House on Jan. 20.

The New York Democrat said progressives need to push the Biden administration to move further left on the issue after the incoming president said he was "unlikely" to use his authority to fully forgive student loan debt for individual borrowers.

“We have to push the Biden administration hard," Ocasio-Cortez told Punchbowl News. "This whole thing. ‘We can’t cancel student loan debt’ is not gonna fly.”

Outstanding student loan debt has doubled over the past decade, nearing a staggering $1.7 trillion. About one in six American adults owes money on federal student loan debt, which is the largest amount of non-mortgage debt in the U.S. It has been cited as a major hindrance in people’s “economic life” by Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell.

Progressives pressure AOC, other Dems to force Pelosi's hand on Medicare-for-All vote

A new progressive movement popping up in Democratic circles led by political comedian Jimmy Dore, is pushing House Democrats to align and force Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to bring a vote to the floor on Medicare for All.

The initiative known as #ForceTheVote is calling on the "squad" along with recently elected progressives, like Rep.-elects Jamaal Bowman of New York and Cori Bush from Missouri, to push back on Pelosi by demanding she allow a vote on the single-payer health care system in exchange for her re-election as speaker.

"We put the Squad and House progressives in office to stand up to Nancy Pelosi, establishment Democrats, and the insurance corporations that fund them," declared the movement in a statement. "This is a rare moment where Pelosi needs something from progressives."

Instead of losing power with a smaller Democratic majority, progressive lawmakers may be able to better steer Pelosi’s agenda by the fact that the speaker will need every Democrat's vote to get legislation through – a strategy Dore is urging progressives to use.

To the OP

I remarked upon that yesterday; how will he mitigate the disappointment?

but upon reflection I consider the idea that

there will be a chimera of "things are so much better now than they were before"
from the crowd who had it well enough to have the time to log on and hate.

Those who truly need, don't have the time...

Manchin on proposed round of $2K checks: 'Absolutely not'

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) on Friday voiced firm opposition to providing $2,000 stimulus checks, putting the moderate lawmaker at odds with President-elect Joe Biden, congressional Democrats and even some Republicans.

Biden DHS pick discloses corporate clients

Alejandro Mayorkas, President-elect Joe Biden’s pick for Homeland Security secretary, has made more than $3.3 million over the past two years as a corporate lawyer representing and advising companies such as Airbnb, Northrop Grumman, T-Mobile and Uber, according to a newly filed disclosure.

The disclosures could be a hurdle for Mayorkas with some progressive senators, who have battled the companies Mayorkas defended.

The most problematic might be Intuit, the tax preparation company behind TurboTax.

More than a dozen lawmakers — including Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) — urged the Federal Trade Commission in 2019 to investigate whether efforts by Intuit and other tax prep companies to conceal their free tax filing options from the public, which were exposed by a ProPublica investigation, constituted “unfair and deceptive practices or unfair methods of competition.”

Backlash over Biden cabinet picks

President-Elect Joe Biden has been rolling out his Cabinet picks ahead of his January 20 inauguration, and at least one community is displeased with the results.

According to Politico’s 2021 Transition Playbook, there has been backlash from the Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI), which for the first time in more than two decades will not be represented among Biden’s top officials:

APPI lawmakers and outside groups have been warning for weeks that the failure to nominate an Asian American to a secretary slot would be an insult to an important and growing bloc of voters. And more than 100 lawmakers from both chambers signed a letter to Biden late last month arguing that failing to nominate an Asian American secretary amid his quest to build a diverse Cabinet would “send the wrong message that ‘diversity’ does not include AAPIs.”

Progressives expressed concern Thursday following reports that Presdident-elect Joe Biden has chosen Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo to be commerce secretary.

"Raimondo, a former venture capitalist, is the wrong pick—and the American public agrees," the Revoling Door Project—a group that's urged Biden to reject corporate-aligned Cabinet selections—said in a statement. "According to November polling, nearly 70% of respondents oppose President-elect Biden appointing Raimondo to any Cabinet position."

Raimondo, a charter school advocate who backed former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg during the Democratic presidential primary—had previously been under consideration to be Biden's Department of Health and Human Services chief but withdrew her name from consideration last month amid grounded accusations her "record on health is a total disaster."

AOC demands Biden follow through on stimulus: ‘$2,000 does not mean $1,400’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is urging President-elect Joe Biden to follow through on providing $2,000 coronavirus relief checks to the American people following the reveal of his $1.9 trillion spending plan.

Ocasio-Cortez, a far-left member of the “Squad,” indicated that such is not enough.

“$2,000 means $2,000. $2,000 does not mean $1,400,” she said, the Washington Post reported.

However, Biden’s team contends that direct payments of $1,400 would still fulfill the promise when combined with the $600 distributed through the $2.3 trillion coronavirus relief and government spending measure President Trump signed last month.

We are still in Donald Trump's government.

It’ll be over soon.

Then the clean up and recovery, the same that’s followed the last half dozen Republican administrations, begins.

Kyrsten Sinema emerges as focal point of left-wing frustration

Arizona Democratic Sen. Kyrsten Sinema’s firm filibuster stance has made her a bete noire of the Democratic party's vocal Left wing.

Sinema’s office told the Washington Post on Monday that she is “against eliminating the filibuster, and she is not open to changing her mind.”

That stance flies in the face of the growing movement to do away with the legislative tool that effectively prevents the passage of legislation without support from 60 senators. In the 50-50 divided Senate, Democrats have the majority due to Vice President Kamala Harris's tiebreaking vote. But the filibuster rule means 10 Republicans are necessary to join with Democrats to pass legislation.

"What a wild statement: ‘Not open to changing her mind!’ Doesn't matter what information reality brings, or what consequences her stances inflicts, she is settled like stone," said Ezra Klein, a New York Times opinion writer.

Susan Sarandon fired off a series of tweets Thursday aimed at Democratic leaders who had pledged to voters that they would send out $2,000 stimulus checks if elected to office. Instead, President Biden is pushing for $1,400 checks as part of his $1.9 trillion spending plan.

The actress warned that Democrats risk losing elections in 2022 and 2024 if they fail to deliver on their promises.

“If voters feel like Dems are pulling a bait and switch, don’t be surprised when they don’t show up in 2022 or 2024,” she tweeted, adding, “Is it really worth it to lose Dem voters in 2022 and 2024 over $600?”

Bernie opposes cutting the income cap for $1,400 stimulus checks

Sen. Bernie Sanders said Sunday that he opposes cutting the income threshold for receiving $1,400 direct payments in the next coronavirus relief bill, underscoring a split Democrats will need to resolve before they can pass the $1.9 trillion package.

The caucus’ most conservative member in Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.V., has raised concerns that stimulus checks as currently targeted would go to too many high-income people who did not lose their jobs during the pandemic. President Joe Biden has said he is open to negotiating eligibility for payments, which as proposed would go in full to individuals making up to $75,000 and couples earning up to $150,000.

Sanders, a Vermont independent and chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, and some colleagues have argued Democrats should not lower the income cap. Eligibility for checks has emerged as the main sticking point within the party as it tries to pass a rescue package without Republican votes in the Senate.

A single defection would sink the bill.

What Biden has on his hands, like what Obama had, but worse, is cleaning up the Republicans' complete failure to govern.

Liberals attack Joe Biden as a 'racist'

Socialists and others on the left excoriated President Joe Biden over his admission that he didn't have the power to forgive student debt for those who owed up to $50,000.

"It depends on the idea that, I say to a community, I'm going to forgive the debt of billions of dollars ... for people who have gone to Harvard and Yale and Penn," he explained.

Biden had other plans to extend debt relief to some Americans according to different criteria, but many on the left angrily denounced him for not supporting a blanket relief for all student debt up to $50,000.

"t's extremely classist and racist to assume that only rich people can get into 'elite' schools," said one user.
