If you look around the world at all the countries whose educational systems are generally agreed to produce better results than ours, one thing they all have in common is centralized national control of the system.

1) We aren't other nations.

2) Ours was the best in the world until we turned it into a federal welfare program more focused on acquiring funding than academic excellence.

3) Many of the other nations you speak of are smaller than most major US metro areas in population, and most of them smaller than a number of US states geographically and and economically.

4) As well as far more culturally and ethnically homogenous.


We absolutely positively do not need a centralized national corruption and exploitation system fraudulently parading about as an "education" system.

Part of the problem is people who could never make it in an reputable college, lying to themselves and thinking they can go to college and signed up for classes at a degree mill. They signed up to pay for a useless degree, from a school that would offer them no real job prospects and now what those loans forgiven.

You could stand to dial it back some to appear more reasonable. And maybe ask for clarification instead of rabidly pounce.

Plenty of people got unmarketable degrees going through FAFSA and they should pay…their choice to get English or puppetry majors. Others thought they were getting marketable degrees and got hoodwinked by companies hiding the true interest rates and lending to anyone, or by going to schools like trump university who swindled them. The latter should get some % break, but still owe something appropriate.

Maybe. It’s true that reputable colleges won’t admit or discourage applicants who are a long shot to graduate.

But those degree mills, and the associated loan programs, are predatory and make promises they can’t keep, in essence defrauding the students. I’m sure many signed up for what they thought were marketable degrees only to be SOL, aka trump university.

I’m not claiming the students shouldn’t be held to some responsibility, but that such predatory practices also be held accountable.
