Biden accused of lying about visiting Tree of Life Synagogue

President Joe Biden told Jewish leaders that he visited the Tree of Life Synagogue, where 11 people were killed by an anti-Semitic shooter on Oct. 27, 2018. However, Tree of Life Synagogue officials say that Biden never visited the Pittsburgh place of worship.

Ahead of the upcoming Jewish holidays Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, Biden held a 16-minute virtual address with leaders of the Jewish community. During Thursday's meeting, Biden claimed that he visited the Tree of Life Synagogue

"And it's been given too much oxygen in the last four, five, seven, ten years, and it has seen itself, whether it was — I remember spending time at the — you know, going to the — you know, the Tree of Life Synagogue, speaking with the — just — it just is amazing these things are happening — happening in America," Biden said.

CNN fact-checker Daniel Dale said Biden's comments are a "big problem" because "there's just no evidence" of President Biden visiting the Tree of Life Synagogue.

WH admits Biden never visited ‘Tree of Life’ Synagogue after 2018 massacre

On Friday, the White House confirmed to the New York Post that the president never visited the synagogue and was instead referring “to a call he had with the Tree of Life rabbi in 2019,” which contradicts the fact that Biden explicitly said that he remembers “spending time at” the Tree of Life synagogue. Nonetheless, Tree of Life Rabbi Hazzan Jeffrey Myers told the Post that Biden did call him one year after the massacre.

'President Biden kindly called me on my cell phone as I was sitting in Dulles Airport awaiting a return flight to Pittsburgh after I testified before Congress in July 2019."

Following the attack, then-President Donald Trump visited the site to pay his respects and personally met with the synagogue’s rabbi, Jeffrey Myers, who said the president exhibited a ‘warm and personal side’ unseen by the public.
