Yara stared out into her kingdom with admiration and deep thought about how she would rule many a time, she imagined a loving mate, a counterpart that balanced her out as a goddess, someone strong, true, loving, but the elders had in mind to have her betrothed to the worst god in the kingdom, Nereus, who she despised.

She had no idea what to do, her parents agreed to this, as did Nereus, who had fawned after her for years bur she had not felt the same, she heard of the portals to other worlds, she knew of them, felt them, her abilities could seek them at times.

She used her energy to focus on something else, another world, far from here. She closed her eyes and suddenly felt the air change and her eyes flew open. She was in another world , but where was she?

Everything looked at was different, the air smelled different, the citizens were not like home. She was shocked, and she wandered, she wasnt sure how long, but she was hungry and tired, and noticed many things in this new world.

She yawned and sat on a bench and before she knew it she had some citizens staring at her who she ignored before drifting into rest.

Once upon a time…

Those words, across the universe there was some variation of it on every planet with intelligent life. Words whispered in the dark of the night in hushed tones. Those tones they varied almost as much as the subject matter itself! Tones of fear, of breathless anticipation, and love… adoring love. Mothers and Fathers telling their children stories as they lulled them off to sleep. It was understood, it was understood no matter what planet one might find themselves on. Stories were important, vitally important. Stories of a people, stories that made up the tapestry of their existence.

This is one such story , involving some thing even more universal. This is a story of love, a story of love that transcended barriers and worlds. It stars a princess, a princess from the stars. It also stars a man, a man who came from humble means and became something more than he could have imagined. Their story begins, it begins on a cool fall day. With a wind whipping through the trees and sending red hued leaves scattering.

One of those leaves caught the eye of Richard Arlington Tobin. His brown chocolate eyes tracked it behind wire rimmed glasses. His wavy black hair was pushed back slicked to give a professional look. His broad shoulders were encased in a threadbare black suit jacket. Underneath he was wearing a history nerd T shirt that showcased his lean reedy frame. A pair of tight jeans and black running shoes finished off his look.

His messenger bag slapped against his hip as he rushed forward. He dug his heels in pushing forward. He didn’t dare check his fathers old silver pocket watch. He knew he was running late, his life was a series of late appointments. Scatter brained was what his mother used to call him. Accurate as it was he still tried, then again that’s who Dick Tobin was. A tryer and an eternal optimist to boot!

He rushed past her! Only to top as the image of her finally hit his scattered brain. He turned back slowly, eyes landing on her. For a second he hesitated eyes assessing her. Then he finally came back over. Long pianist fingers came out and gently tapped her shoulder. Then when that didn’t work he more firmly shrugged her shoulder.

“Miss… I said miss! Are you okay?” He asked his voice soft and cultured. There was a hint of a accent there… something European.

Yara was stunned as slightly startled being woken from her slumber. She felt the soft strong hand on her shoulder touching her and shaking her seeming a bit distressed. She blinked a few times, the sun in this dimension different from her own, this one was warm where as hers was very cool.

Her large silver hair sparkled in the sun as did her light icy colored eyes, her smooth skin was creamy beige color , her form , firm womanly and shapely, her dress hanging loosely and comfortably but fit well.

She looked over his features, the civilian was very handsome, he was tall, he had objects in his hands and across his body she was not familiar with she was confused and quite hungry, and she thought of returning home for moment.

She heard the slight difference in his voice and she sat up slowly " I was wandering a few days, to clear my head, i am lost , and i am famished, is there a place i can fetch any liquids or substance ?" She asked the man who seemed confused. She stood to stretch and blushed at how the mans features seemed to compliment her own.

" I am Yara " she said introducing yourself " Who might you be civilian" she asked curious.

The professor with his head in the stars expected the girl to wave him off. She was breath taking and ethereal. To him that meant she was decidedly out of his league. Handsome as he might be he didn’t understand women. Or was it that women didn’t understand him? He never could figure out which way it was. The only thing he knew for certain was that he was odd. While he was okay with being odd he realized a great many weren’t interested in oddities. It was not unlike his own thoughts towards people who were decidedly to normal.

He pulled back, blinking at her words and what she was saying. Her voice… it all sounded so very strange! Like she was an actress preparing for a role. He did his best not to back away from her slowly as she spoke. She also could have been lost… or possibly dealing with some kind of brain trauma. What was with the civilian thing?

“Well,” He said deciding to help her anyways. It would be an adventure right? Surely they would understand over at the department…

“I can help you with that.” He finally said offering out his hand. “We can get you some substance.”

He helped her up his eyes lingering on her for a second before he cleared his throat. “There’s a coffee shop not to far away. Ever have coffee?” He asked her curiously.

Yara was hesitant, she hadnt known the commoner, but her power sensed he was good intentioned , he wished her no harm, so she grabbed his hand and offered a small dazzling smile, he seemed astounded by her but tried to hide it, she knew her voice wasnt the same as others here listening to them speak and she was thrilled he would find her something to consume.

"There’s a coffee shop not to far away. Ever have coffee?

"Coffee" Yara said repeating the word, she had never heard of such a thing , this dimension was truly different from her home in many ways " No, I do not know of this coffee" she said and looked at him, she was taller in her dimension, she towered over the fae and the commoners there, was always above them, but her, she blended in, she was a normal size, the same size as the commoners here, it amazed her yet confused her, and she wondered if somehow the ancient growung plant had gotten to this world.

She was bought out of her thoughts when she was pulled back suddenly into his strong chest and a bike rider came speeding past her " Watch it Lady! The man yelled at her and she felt her eyes flash with anger at the disrespect, she was lucky that the man had grabbed her hand before she could display her power though her palm grew warm as she was about to throw the podgy man from his odd vehicle.

She was quickly brought into the shop by the stranger who seemed to be expressing regret for the poorly mannered man.

She just nodded unsure of what to say to that " You have no need to ask for pardon for that civilians audacious, behavior, had there been a clear area i would have corrected his behavior" she said before they sat and she stared at the menu " What may this list be?" She asked seeing some words new to her.

People were so rude! That was the indignant thought burning in the young professor’s head as he guided her to the safety of the coffee shop. The whole bike incident left him feeling shaky. He abhorred high contact events. They stressed him out and he could already feel his heart seizing up ever so slightly in his chest. There was a quick pace to his steps as he led her into the warm safe haven of the coffee shop. The heat hit him first, a wave of it that caused his glasses to fog up immediately. Then the smell of warm spice.

“I love this place,” He told her talking because he was nervous. “it’s right next to the university and they make some of the best coffee in the area.” He told her quite honestly.

After they sat down, he shrugged out of his jacket and they got the menu he calmed down. It felt safe, like they were in their own little bubble. His heart was ramping down from the minor anxiety attack and he breathed evenly to further regulate. His fingers kept fidgeting though, the long digits tapping and moving packets around.

“It’s a menu,” He explained when she asked her question. “It has the things that this place makes… wow you’re really not from around here are you? Do you want me to order for you?” He asked raising an eyebrow. This was all starting to feel… strange. Like there was something going on here he didn’t understand. His lips pursed as he assessed her.

“Where are you from?” He finally asked her unable to deny his curiosity. “I’ve never heard an accent quite like yours before!”

Yara didn't understand much from this world but this civilian seemed friendly and was trying to help her and she felt comfortable here. She looked around the shop, far different them what she had home, less technical.

She nodded when he asked her if she would like him to order . " Yes that would be nice" she said unsure of the things they had on this, menu . She continued to look around and examine the small little gadgets like a small black container she poured some white substance into her hand and tasted it's sweetness curious about all of it and knew she would enjoy getting to know this new universe.

She looked up as he asked her where she was from and smiled saying proudly " I am from Avallaha, it is far from this place, whatever this place may be, but it is far different from my home" she said "What is this place called?" She asked curiously, she had gotten to wander and look around the new world she was in yet she still had not know exactly where she had portaled herself to and hoped that it had taken them a few days to notice her gone.

She fiddled with her on the table nervous about what the consequences would be if Nereus her betrothed were to find her, she knew as a goddess they were to always make more, so that Avallaha could thrive, always be protected, but if she were to breed, then she had wanted another, she wanted a man she could love and who could love her equally, not just to wed a man the fates decided would be best for her to make children with.
