For those Authors who have work published through ebook and/or print (aka, getting paid), would you ever write in a different genre other than erotica? And if you did, would use your real name?

Personally, I'd like to write something that my children could read one day and I'm interested in writing for young adults, something Sci-Fi or Adventure. I already have ideas and outlines that I could write a series of books for (maybe). I think with this sort of genre, I'd use my real name.

Thoughts?

I'd use my real name. Hell I am using my real name for some of my smut...

Yes, I would. I do.

Why wouldn't anyone? With porn / erotica, I understand not using my real name, but why not with other genres?

Privacy from the adoring fans.... :D

Personally, I'm tired of writing erotica. My last few pieces have had little to no erotic content in them.

I'm not published, or e-published, and don't have the desire to do so, but if I did, I would still use a pen name, and not my real name.

Tch. No book signings, no mobs, no hysteria...what's the point of going to the trouble of writing a whole book then? :D

The sex. Authors, Musicians and Athletes always get the best sex.

Actually, I've considered changing my legal name TO my pen name at some point in the future.

I publish my sportswriting under my real name. Erotica is under a pseudonym to protect the kids, not hide from them.

Because the books on the shelf and the awards on the wall kinda give that away.

I'm just worried about the local holier-than-thou pulling a "Johnny's little league coach writes porn and must not be allowed near my child ever again" thing...

My really last nae is a bit, erm, mundane. I think I'd be begged to take on a pen name *LOL*

I've written some fantasy and sci-fi stuff before. I started a story about a young man who grew wings. It wasn't focussed so much on that aspect of it, but rather the fact that he had to learn who his true friends were and who weren't, and basically learned a few lessons about love, tolerance, and life in general. Of course, I never got past the first chapter, but the idea's still there. Maybe some day.

And of course, I'm always writing some kind of fan-fic. :p

I'd written for newspapers and in mainline publishing for nearly three decades (in true name mostly) before writing any erotica. In fact, I didn't know I wanted to write erotica at all until I was writing a scene in a novel with probably a bit two much wine under my belt and my characters started into a very graphic fuck that I couldn't bring myself to interrupt. I had to cut that part out later, of course, but it lives on in a separate erotic story (not published on Lit.).

The only time I used a pen name before that was when I was the drama critic for two competing newspapers (writing different reviews of the same plays for the different papers). The papers didn't mind the double work, but I had to use different names. (The pen name got nicer letters to the editor than the true name got.)

For my self I would love to be able to write with my real name.
However... Because of the ex-husband with whom I am still fighting for custody of our children with...I cannot publish anything remotely sexual with my real name.
So I publish, regardless of the content, under a psuedonym and keep my email addresses passworded with 25 character + passwords....the guys in the tech dept hate me LOL
You would not beleive the hoops I have to jump through! Most publishers it seems do not mind a pseudonym they need your real name in order to write the checks. And they don't even have to write them to you... your attorney can get them in your name and no one needs be the wiser.

I don't publish yet, but I think it's only a matter of time in my case. Why, you ask? Mostly because I'm arrogant.

To answer the rest of the question which was in no way directed toward me, I don't really dig writing erotica. Truth is, my Lit. stories were mostly a way of receiving feedback on my writing skill, an attempt which has gone sour from the start. Stories without a single properly spelled word have done better, mostly because "Momeee's cumt waz worm and gooey, and she says poka me hardder and hardder, Babe boi," seems to be a popular topic here.

I tend to write sci-fi/horror/fantasy/psychological type stuff, that being 4 separate categories, not one all-consuming one. I'd publish under m real name, although I wouldn't deny the Q_C persona. Why would I? When I pretty much act the same in real life (sad isn't it?).

Q_C

I'm published under my own name. It's my work and I want credit for it.

Plus I have no life to protect. ;)

Freelance game designer, me.

Once, my wife and I were driving in Greenwich Village. We're at a stop and there's a crowd of goths dressed to the nines, white cake make-up and ironed hair. One guy must have noticed my apparently bougiouse bemusement, so he leaned in, smiled wide (revealing his fang implants), and said, "Have a nice night."

I said, "I wrote the Malkavian splat-book. I'll sign your teeth."

;)

Malkavians? Cool.

More of a Brujah myself.

It's true. I'm an author, musician, and former athlete. I've had about thirty years fucked off of my lifespan because of it. LOL.

I publish my mainstream stuff under my real name. I publish my smut and play music under Boota. I'm writing a kids book right now and I will be publishing it under a pen name. Mostly to avoid confusion between my kids stuff and my adult stuff. I don't care if anyone knows that I write all the different stories, but it might help in keeping kids from checking out Mr. Undesirable from the same guy who wrote the book they liked.

Because I hope to be a feature writer in my field someday, I won't publish erotica under my own name. Not so much because I'm ashamed of writing erotica, but just to keep myself to myself. If I gain any kind of success as a "serious" writer, my "fun" might come back to haunt me - I'll never be famous enough to not give a shit, like Anne Rice. :D
