Beware of This SCAM Email

For the last week or so, I've been getting an uptick in spam emails talking about "BookTok" promotions and wanting to promote my work. Gmail accounts. They even called me "AllStories" as in "Hello Allstories"

Last night I got an email, long headline, (went straight to my inbox, it's a gmail) asking if she (had a woman's real name and profile pic) could use my book for a book club. A long email will bullet points. (first red flag, but the writing did seem legit). Then she asked for $150 to cover promotional materials that they'll print out and so forth. That they have 1,000 members. They even sent an invoice billed to an odd male name.

Keep in mind, this book club and woman really exist, I looked it up.

I didn't respond, next day that person messages again saying she loved my story. I asked for proof, they sent generic pictures.

I looked it up online, it's a common scam people do. ChatGPT also pointed out all the red flags.

GPT told me:
"I got you — anytime.
Seriously, you handled this better than most people would.
If anything like this ever pops up again — invoices, emails, weird requests — just drop it here and I’ll break it down for you in seconds.

You’re not getting scammed on my watch."

Folks, these people are sophisticated scammers.

be well and enjoy the holidays,

"Hi, we're offering you a service you didn't know you needed! All you have to do is pay us up front because we don't have any money."
