Welcome everyone. This is a place to discuss books. Make it yours. :)

Good luck.

I've tried to start a book thread before, and I think it's been done a few times since.. all to no avail.

I tried with Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, and even got 300 pages in..... but nothing had happened. It was so boring and bleak, and the characters not likable in the least.

Susanna Clarke always seemed to think she was being so clever... even inventing fake appendices and side notes about the 'history' of the place.

I found it distracting, twee and self-indulgent. It's not often I give up on a book, but I'm glad I did with that one.... It's a couple of days I'll never get back. :(

ETA: I mentioned that book because Pink put it in her first post and then edited it out for some reason.

i knew it would be hard to start one here, it's hard enough to start and keep a thread going without adding having to read books along with it. i lined up a couple of people ahead of time who were interested. :)

Yes, i noticed that "Jonathon Strange and Mr Norell" was a slow read but i'm not giving up. However, i'm not 100 pages in yet so i maybe right in there with you yet. i took that info out of my first post, i wanted to make a post about my book info in one post but not the first one of the thread. :)

and yes, the footnotes are damned annoying. :D

OOOOOOooooo thanks, i'll check it out and welcome. :)

I also use booksfree.com. It's like netflix for books. If anyone decides to join let me know so I can get credit for the recommendation. :D

Books i'm currently reading:

The Stolen Child by Keith Donohue (the book gets better, the farther along you get)
Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke (this one is slow going but i'm not giving up)

Book i just finished:
American Gods by Neil Gaiman (i highly recommend this book)

Self help books that i read every day:

Until Today!: Daily Devotions for Spiritual Growth and Peace of Mind
Daily Affirmations for Adult Children of Alcoholics

(both self-help books are excellent, i highly recommend them both. They mention God a lot, if that doesn't bother you)

i need a book on how to grow old gracefully. *grumble*

You did it pink!

I'm really glad-I'll look in often:D

We are going to give everyone a week to get the book or a bit longer if needed.

i need to PM Mark. i doubt he'll see this.

I tried to start a book thread and it bombed... I have a huge libarary, over 400 books and I collect them.. First Editions and many are signed. Mostly mysteries, who done its, thrillers, and court room dramas.

So, I will hop in and be part of this... see how it goes...

Right now I am reading Stephen King... the Cell.

I finished reading Kym. I really enjoyed it. I could almost see Kym and the various adventures and antics she described. I haven't read anything else by the author, but she clearly loves animals and nature. I think I'd probably enjoy reading more of her stories. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes cats and cat stories.

It was too boring for me. i didn't finish it, i gave up.

Right now, i'm reading "Cloud Atlas." i love it. If you can get past the first story, the rest of the book is an easier read.
