Don't know if something about the passing of Bettie Page has already been posted.
If so, well, this sex-positive icon deserves the recogntion.

Considering the time of year, this shot, one of her most famous, seemed appropriate.
Feel free to post your own favorite images and/or any thoughts on her life.

Los Angeles, December 11, 2008

Bettie Page, sweet-smiling legendary 1950s pin-up queen with the killer curves and coal-black bangs, died today of pneumonia at a Los Angeles area hospital. She was 85 years old. She suffered a heart attack one week ago and never regained consciousness. Her popularity as an underground, guilty pleasures phenomenon has continued to soar despite the fact that the reclusive Page disappeared almost a half century ago, leading many to believe that one of the most photographed individuals of the 20th century was already dead.

There was another thread, but not quite as flattering as this. ;)

Among my list of sexual icons that will never die, Betty Page ranks right up there with Marilyn Monroe, Ginger Lynn, and Marlene Dietrich.

But she made her contribution with only a wink and a smile. ;)

That's no small feat.

There was an intriguing playfullness about BP. It always seemed like she was having fun playing the part of a model, as if saying to the public, "Sure we all know this is put-on, but ain't it a blast?"

Sarahh, those are two iconic photos of her.

She was lovely.

I've used the bottom pic as an AV before.

Yes you did.

I  Betty

-- but Irving Klaw was the Svengali who made her. On seeing Bizarre Magazine as a youth, I first realized I was far from alone in my SM perversion.

Shortly after the turn of the century, "Playboy" had a featue on the 100 leading sex symbols, or something lke that, of the twentieth century. Bettie ranked third, after MM and Jayne. All the others were mostly centerfolds and bunnies, with some actesses, and the list was hardly unbiased, but it was a tribute.

I can still look at those photos and think sexy....I mean wow. SO beautiful and so natural. I remember once when she was asked if she was concerned about the S&M photos she replied, "yeah aren't they fun."

A classic sex symbol in every sense.......:rose:
