It had been subtle at first but she should have known better. She had loved him and when he said he loved her more than gold, she had been overjoyed. When he slid the ring on her finger and proclaimed it over and over it again, she had been too shocked to say anything.
The ring felt warm, and she glanced at it, it was a mere bauble compared to his massive hoard of gold. To her it was perfect, little did she know that it was cursed. She never even thought of taking it off, and little by little her dark auburn hair changed to a golden color. She thought it some bizarre magical early wedding gift that someone forgot to mention. After all her beloved LOVED gold, and the fact that her name was Goldwyn had been a great joke.
Every time her beloved said he loved her more than gold it encouraged the change, and on their wedding day her skin had a faint golden tinge. Most would consider it a radiant glow, considering her golden hair, or a good make up job, or temp spell. None noticed it for what it was, and his pompous vows continually referred to his love of gold, just after their kiss she was frozen.
Goldwyn could sense everything going on around her, but her entire body and the gorgeous golden hued gown, had seemingly transformed to gold. The rest was a blur as many a talented mage attempted to change her back. Time passed and her husband never considered annulling their union. Her family had pleaded for her to be released into their care. Others had offered to purchase her, but he had refused them all. In fact he seemed obsessed with possessing her.
As he aged, she remained ageless, trapped outside of time. Eventually she was moved to a garden, so only he could gaze upon her "golden beauty." Each declaration of love was painful to her. As time passed it became clear that while he had not intended this to happen that it was clearly pleased with the results.
She grew tired of his rambling quite quickly, and it was rarely the same gardener twice.
