my personal beliefs are these: each of us is niether gay nor straight. We just choose a sexual partner and have at the pleasure. Some will reproduce and others will not, but that does not mean those parties who do not reproduce, do not contribute to the community. I think that is the trouble with our society ( as humans) we have lost touch with nature, of what is is just to be.

What she said in the article is true. sexuality is just that: the need to connect with another, to bond. monogamy is the bonding of two forever. polyamory ( it seems with bonobos) is bonding with your community, which due to western religion, is outcast. Look at the Utah Mormons, and how they were actively persecuted by thier own church members when it the US government found it not feasible to have plural marraige.

A situation that may be up for review. The Canadian attorney general is already examining the possibility that polygamy on the part of Olde Tyme Mormans may be protected under the Canadian Freedom of Religion portion of their constitution. Additionally, under US law, any polygamous marriage contracted in a country where such are legal must be recognized within the US. The First Amendment and the Equal Protection Clause may require a change in attitude here, too.

Unless you think in terms of group selection, in which case it's the individualists who are the dinosaurs.

The key sentence is this:

The more socially complex the animal, the more sexual "deviance" it exhibits.

All these examples she gives are for social animals. The rules for social or pack animals are totally different than for solitary animals. Their basic survival unit is the group, not the individual, and so the rules are different.

Humans are social animals par excellance, so we're deviant as hell, thank God.

Had to chuckle and agree, Doc.
