Best way to send drafts to editors?

So, when you do get in touch with editors through the board and PMs, is there a standard way to send drafts to them? Is it typical to PM to ask for an email address, or is there a way to send files through the site or the board directly?

I just don't want to be asking people for their email addresses if it's impolite. I didn't see a specific answer to this question in the stickies.

e-mail attachment--in Word, if you both have that.

I agree with pilot. After the initial communication through PMs, then a Word doc sent by e-mail.

For you to contact an editor by email, you will have to enable your private message function. It is prohibited to post an email address in any post.

At the base, you need a shared system where the editor can do markup that doesn't destroy the original and that can be easily cleaned up at the author's end. The industry's answer to that is Word tracking change.

LibreOffice also has change tracking. Does anyone use that? I like the idea of editing, but I wouldn't want to be forced to change software.
