They left out the best part of Grand Rapids: Yesterdog.

On the other hand an entire city singing American Pie? I think i just caught a glimpse of hell. Time to start making amends!

Adam Herz, who wrote the movie American Pie, is from East Grand Rapids, a nice GR suburb. The movie is supposedly based on his high school experiences there. I'm guessing that's one reason they chose American Pie for the video.

I just think it's incredible they pulled it off. Here in Providence the politicians would have been fighting for who would get credit and I'm sure some drunk URI kids would have made it a frat prank to bust the entire thing up. Looks like a simple fun place to live.

It is an amazing video not only in choreographing so many disparaging elements, but getting the timing right with the song (I was particularly impressed with the kayaks! Damn. How do you get boats in V formation out on the right place in the river at just at the right time for camera and music?). Most impressive is seeing the whole town in on it. I can't imagine anyone shutting down my town--i.e. clearing the streets and such--for a day to make such a video, let alone getting every branch of the city in on it and cooperating.

That's one hell of a tourism video and it certainly works. I'd be tempted to check out any place that can come together to do something like that. I predict a lot of visitors to Grand Rapids this summer
