Best Southern State.

Since I live in Tennessee I think that this state is the best. The reason being that Memphis has Graceland, Beale St., Pink Palace Museum and Mud Island. Nashville has the Grand Ole Opry. Knoxville, Chattanooga, Jackson and Murfreesboro are all very fine cities to go to for fun. Chattanooga is the cleanest city if not one of the cleanest cities in the South.


What state in the South do you think is the best to live in and have fun?

We have the Appalachian Mts. in eastern Tennessee also. Florida has too many damn hurricanes. That being said, Florida is the dirtiest state in the South just because of that. That's just my opinion.

I used to live in Southern Illinois before moving down here to Western Tennessee. Southeast Missouri, Southwest Illinois and Western Kentucky is America's heartland and also the true Midwest part of the USA.

Geographically, it's Alabama hands down, no discussion possible. Anyone that says otherwise hasn't travelled the South with me in my Mustang.

Why? Alabama has beautiful mountains in the north, beautiful hot white sand beaches in the extreme south, and 17% of the nation's freshwater.

Alabama is not overdeveloped like metro Atlanta or underdeveloped like 99% of Mississippi. It doesn't have Yankees and Cubans galore like pancake / hurricane prone Florida (how many condos can a state take?) nor does it suffer from the sameness of Tennessee (we've got tall mountains and REALLY tall mountains).

But as a place to live, Georgia is where is it's at. It's much like New York with more space (Georgia is the largest state east of the Mississippi river).

Atlanta is much like NYC, lot's of people from all over. Headquarters for a million different companies, museums galore, clubs and bars out the ass, etc....The rest of the state is much like upstate New York, provincial and charming with pockets of one of a kind culture.

LOL--I'd say that culturally anything between I-70 and I-10 would be eligible for inclusion in "the South." Once you get south of I-10 where I live, you've basically left the country. Florida doesn't count. Nobody knows what the fuck it is.

I did most of my growing up on the coast of large bodies of water- from the gulf to the Atlantic. My favorite place in the world to be is on the coast and for the last 9 years (for the first time in my life) I have lived hours away from one. I'll be moving near the coast sooner or later, hopefully sooner.
