Without a doubt, Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD to it's fans) is the best space picture site on the Internet. The canonical address is http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html.

Today's picture (it changes at midnight each day, so I'm putting a date-specific link) is: http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap020904.html

(I also attached it in small form, which I believe the lack of copyright permits, courtesy of the Nordic Optical Telescope in the Canaries.)

Thanks Binkley! That is a really kewl site:) I love to see pictures of the universe.

I'll ditto that!
Thanks for the links binkley! :)

awesome, thanks. Pictures like this make science geek chicks like me tingle under our lab coats and goggles.

Pictures

Great site. I will be back later to add some of the pictures that I have downloaded over the past six months.

I am being selfish here, I am replying so I do not loose track of the thread.

In lieu of adding pictures that are already there, just h it the "Archives" link and see what there is to see.

Alternately, use the "Index" link and check out pictures by types of picture.

This is one of those links that gets mentioned outright about every four months (I dedicated a thread to it myself once, a few months back). I'm glad to see that it still gets a "WOW" out of folks!

G-d bless, and I'm at work! I hope this doesn't turn into one of those "men masturbating at work" threads. I never shut my door.

Do you know any bits about steam engines or particle accelerators?

not a whole lot, would need to brush up. but am off to 2:30 appt sorry darling but I leave you with this thought:

If the nucleus of an atom was the size of a bowling bowl, the first electron in its orbital shell would be the size of a honeybee circling in a five mile radius. What's in between?

The bee is smeared all over the entire range. Poor little bee. You try to pin him down in one place, he get's all angry and buzzy; you let him relax and slow down, and then you really can't find him again.

beautiful

thanks for the pic ....seems like I say that on the amateur pic board a lot

Very cool. I have my new wallpaper.

Edited to add:

Binkley, as an ubergeek you rule! My dad is going to love this site! I love it.

Amazing stuff for sure. But the best bit is this is a PERFECT boss distraction site! If he starts to get annoying all I have to do is point him here and he'll be lost for hours. :D

Thank you for that.
