Well I guess the title should read second best. Because everyone knows Apocalypse now was the best.

Deer Hunter get high marks but I can barley get through it.
Full Metal Jacket?
Good Morning Vietnam? ( barely consider this a Nam movie)
Hamburger Hill?

I think I would have to go with Platoon. I personally like We Were Soldiers better, but admit Platoon was a superior flick...

my vote goes to: full metal jacket

I haven't watched a war movie in several years....I always cry like a sobbing fuckin' titty baby.

But FMJ takes the cake over PLT. The basic training section of that film was amazing....and a truly important part of the military exp that is missing from just about every other war flick.

But we all know what #1 really is...

yes indeed.

And to the point of my topic, one of the greatest movies ever to feature Viet-fucking-nam. :D

Rocky movies make me cry..it is weird.
FMJ has the best BT scenses of any movie, but once they get to nam it is just blah....

FMJ was pretty close to my Vietnam experiences. BT reminded me of my BT cept we had old World War 2 wooden barracks.

It may have been bad for your average movie exp. but imo it seemed realistic how they portray the urban combat back in the day, an epic portrayal of what it's like to stare your enemy in the eye and pull the trigger. That never changes.....

Joker was hard fucking core man....not many film scenes get to me like that one does.

I think one has to have lived it to know which is the best cinematic portrayal of that reality. I fortunately did not have that experience.

Platoon.

Another interesting offering was The Boys in Company C.

Ishmael

Go Tell The Spartans with Burt Lancaster. It's about the early years of the war when it mostly advisors.

Not your Rambo or Chuck Norris stuff.
