I am not sure what is best. I will say Vaseline is kinda gritty texture wise . Not all that good for it. The water based one I used was a lot nicer for both of us.

Mr W!!
don't use oil-based ones - they can form a barrier inside that stops good bugs from doing their job
Water based and unless you get off with pooping out lube, don't bother to squirt much inside. The best place for lube is round your rosebud and on whatever is going inside.
Some folks have allergies to the preservatives used in lubes, so use one with as few extras as possible. Despite that, you may find even a basic one will cause the skin to become irritated so you may have to shop around and eliminate the ingredient that is the problem.
The water based ones will kinda dry out during use so if there is any hint of frictional then use more

Good tips!

Thanks both of you. We use the ky ware re base lube. My wife likes the liquid. I prefer the jell I am just kind of looking to try alternatives.

KY is good, but you may or may not have a reaction to it - I can't use it any longer as it causes a horrible burning sensation. Do a patch test on a sensitive skin area before more liberal use.

KY and I are not friends. In any area. I have no clue why. Any other suggestions. I am very interested.

Holy shit!

For the love of all that is holy, please don't say that. There are no helpful "bugs" down there. Rectum is full of bacterias that can cause diseases. Technically, it's covered by a layer of dead cells whose sole purpose is to store poop until its out of the body. I think you got it confused with vagina, which actually has bacteria that prevents infection by keeping its environment slightly acidic.

Everything else you said is great advice, except this little piece.

I disagree with the idea that you should never put oil based products in/near the rectum. We actually do put oil based products in the rectum for medical purposes. That being said, there is some discussion about lubricants functioning as a carrier for bacteria.. and this could be the foundation of the previous statement. In short, people who use lubricants for anal sex report higher rates of STIs than those who do not.

No confusion, but I'm glad you got that off your chest. So you'll agree with this for eg

"Also, be careful with the use of oil-based lubricants; they clog the pores of the skin, breeding infection. Oil-based lubricants are especially not recommended for anal sex for that very reason. Examples of oil-based lubricants are baby oil, Vaseline, and even whipped cream."

To go a little further by way of explanation instead of rant
Following are more tips for increasing anal sex safety:

  • Avoid inserting a penis into the mouth or vagina after it's been inserted in the anus until your partner puts on a new condom.
  • Use plenty of lubricant to reduce the risk of tissue tears. With latex condoms, always use a water-based lubricant.
  • Relax prior to insertion of the penis to help reduce the risk of tears. Taking a warm bath before anal sex or lying on your stomach may make insertion easier.
  • Stop if anal sex is painful.
  • If you experience bleeding after anal sex or you notice a sores or lumps around the anus or a discharge coming from it, see your doctor as soon as possible.

I hope this helps :)

best lude? .... Ludacris?
Mixing b and d is a common typo for people who may be mildly dyslexic. You'll see it quite often on Lit and hardly worth commenting upon. If you see someone type teh instead of the, they are a troll from the GB and you can shoot them up as much as you like!

there are infection risks with any lubricants.. not just oil based lubricants.
It would even be fair to discuss oil lubricants in different categories. For example, some are petroleum based products that are not absorbed well, providing little benefit aside from creating a slippery feel. not all oil based products clog the skin. That's true of mineral- or petroleum-based products; but there are natural choices that are absorbed well. kernel and seed oils will be absorbed quickly and may not be enough to provide lubrication. olive oil or coconut oil are absorbed more slowly and are generally safe for the "down there" areas. In homeopathic medicine, coconut oil is actually used to battle vaginal irritation. The downside, as you've mentioned, is that oil based products can degrade latex and so non-latex condoms would need to be part of the sex plan.

Well you guys just sucked all the fun out of this conversation.... Now it reads like a anal sex ed pamphlet. :(

I read somewhere that in Greece ( not grease!) they use olive oil for cooking and to light their lamps, and as a sex lubricant. Perhaps this goes back all the way to ancient times?

It's still skin, not Rectum. Rectum is not the same as skin.

They are technically correct that oil based lubricants block skin pores (pimple, acne etc), but that depends on how long you keep it on your skin. Oil does nothing if you keep it for 10-12 hours at a stretch. In South Asian tropical countries, they use coconut oil to moisturise their skin. They bathe almost on a daily basis, so they don't have any problems with that. On the other hand, in colder Europe and America, people don't shower daily to be able to get rid of it easily. Hence, the precaution.

You're right on all accounts.

Cool, so basically keep it all clean
and don't use oil-based products if there are possibly safer alternatives that are fresh and have been stored in hygenic conditions and supplied by a reputable manufacturer
take into account possible allergic reactions
and degradation of condoms ( I've seen this - it went like a colander )
don't clench and err...

is everyone having fun yet

Well then just grab a strap on and your favorable ludes we can do some tests and report back on the results. Of course we need the wife's approval first.

I've never taken Quaaludes before anal but I'm up for any...oh, typo

really, I just use a basic water-based one. Never used an injector or heard of those before...sounds rather terrifying.

EDIT: *reads up on injectors/shooters* Okay, that's a bit more calming. I'd give one a try, though it sounds like it might be more effective/cheaper to get a syringe feeder instead of a novelty shooter.

Holy shit is the word!

There is an increasing body of knowledge, pointing to the importance of your microbiome.
Actually a few very serious (and previously "incurable") diseases can be cured by a fecal transplant.

Having the right bugs in your gut, will do you more good than three trips to church every week.
:D
