My turn to ask one:

What do you regard as the best erotic film you have ever seen, and why. You can give more than one example.

My favourite is Through the Looking Glass, but you need the uncensored version or it is just plain naff. The story is about a woman who since young masturbated in front of an old mirror in the attic. She is married now but still goes to play, she fantasises about an Alice in wonderland type land beyond with - for instance - a woman on hands and knees on a table covered in cream and confectionary while bizarre characters eat off her.

There is also a demon figure who takes the shape of her father and eventually it manifests out of the mirror, rapes her and takes her physically back into her fantasy world.

I love the mix of erotica and fantasy and the dark undertones of the film.

Second choice is Nine and a Half Weeks. This too starts with a masturbation scene as a women plays with herself while watching erotic art slides. She meets a man who pushes her into exploring her exhibitionist fantasies, including stripping on the roof of a high rise in New York (or some such city, I later copied this on the roof of a hotel in New York, it feels as great as it looks on film!)

The high point of the film for me though is when after she totaly wimps out when he brings another woman in to play with her she runs out (catch me running!!) and ends up in a live sex show where she takes over as the star performer in an attempt to get back at him, but he just joins in with her.

Sadly she decides to go back to normality after the affair has lasted the stated 9.5 weeks. I like it because it reflects a lot of my own experience from being very sexualy repressed to discovering my hidden liberated side.

James Spader certainly has been in three very sexy movies that I like. Secretary is one of them, and I like it a lot, but it's not my favorite of the three. Sex, Lies and Videotape is a movie with a minimum of actual sex scenes yet the headiest, most intense interaction between the characters. I love the main relationship in the film between Graham and Ann, two sexually dysfunctional people whose lives become entwined. Spader is just gorgeous in the movie and provides the most nuanced and effective performance I've ever seen him do. The characters' dialogue is note by note perfect and achingly real.

The other sexy film with Spader is White Palace, where the ever-lascivious Susan Sarandon plays an older waitress who helps herself to a younger, upper class yuppie played by Spader. For me, this is the textbook film of a non-porn MILF story that works... Bull Durham was positively cutesy in comparison to this more raw film.

Equal in worth to any of the above films featuring Spader, maybe even a tad superior, is the erotically charged tale of forbidden lust and desire fulfilled: Unfaithful, starring Diane Lane and Richard Gere. If porn actresses could emote what Lane does in this film when you see her conflicted feelings of lust, porn would be a whole other industry. The scene where Lane is actually trembling on the brink of being seduced...oh my Lord...now that's acting ! I'm not a fan of Lane at all but this film is her personal masterpiece. I have always liked Richard Gere anyways, but I feel this particular film contains one of his most subtle and unusually sympathetic performances ever as Lane's cuckolded husband.

The Piano with Harvey Keitel and Holly Hunter is another great one. But I haven't seen it in years so I can't put my finger on what makes it great, other than quickly recalling the stealthy, stalking-his-prey perseverance by which Keitel's character pursues Hunter's. I don't find him a sexy actor in general, but he's definitely got his game on in The Piano.

My evil purpose is already paying off LOL, wanted to know what films I should be looking out for. Of those mentioned I have only seen Secretary, I thought there was a lot of missed opportunity there but I liked the general premise. My first full time job was as a secretary but the tables were turned, my boss was very timid and I loved teasing him.

Keep them coming please.

"Ai No Corrida" ("In the Realm of the Senses") and "Y Tu Mama Tambien" are two of the best, but I would also put in a word for "La Belle Noiseuse" by Jacques Rivette, which isn't strictly erotic: it's about how a stuck-up woman has to pose nude for a famous artist to please her boyfriend, who is hoping to become the artist's agent. She hates it, and fights every inch of the way, but finds her constant nudity changing how she looks at herself. It's well worth a look, if only for the stunning Emmanuelle Beart.

Totally agree with how erotic Secretary is, and another, non-porn film that I find really erotic is Bram Stoker's Dracula. James Spader is fantastic in Secretary, but I'm surprised nobody's mentioned "Crash" - one of those ones that turns me on however much I don't really want it too.
For mainstream erotica I love "The Story of O", and an obscure favourite is "Wild Side", which has the most amazingly sexy scenes between Anne Heche and the utterly beautiful Joan Chen. The long seduction is the best bit of all, not just the sex scenes which are actually very tame.

Let's see...

In no specific order:

Y Tu Mama Tambien - - - except for the last half of the very, very end.

Butterfly - - - Pia Zadora is yummy.

Lolita - - - Jeremy Irons and Dominique Swain

Where the Truth Lies - - - 3-way scene was hot.

Cruel Intentions - - - Just hot even though you don't see much, the tension is sexy.

Sin City - - - Jessica Alba... Nice.

Barb Wire - - - Pamela Anderson... maybe not erotic as much... same with her in Snapdragon.

Original Sin - - - Angelina Jolie... whew.

Cheeky - - - Tinto Brass film

Swimming Pool - - - Hot couch scene while being watched.

Wildthings - - - Hot 3-way scene

The Ranch - - - Skinimax type movie - - - but does have a hot school girl scene among others.

I'm sure I have more... but that is good for the moment. lol

Flower and Snake-Oriental bondage film sexy as hell

Story of O-Love the scene where the lead girl calls the maid to whip her:)

Tanya's Island-Early Vanity film. Man and beast (Gorilla) vie for the attention of Vanity's character.

Never Forever-Wife of sterile Oriental guy finds another man to impregnate her in hopes of making her husband happy, then keeps going back to her lover for more even after getting pregnant

Some good stuff people, thanks. Mention of the artist one triggered a memory of a film I saw once but never noted the title, maybe someone knows it. I was a bit merry at the time and then considerably distracted as the film had an effect on me and the person watching with me!

It was about an artist, in one bit he steals a marble memorial from a graveyard to carve it into a female torso he has boasted he has done to a collector, when the collector renages on his offer to buy it the artist throws it through a resteraunt window at him.

Some of the erotic scenes were very steamy, in one a nude woman is on a big Lazy Susan (turntable for the none cooking types) with her bum up in the air, being turned for the best view. In another scene the wife of a man who has commisioned the artist to paint her potrait is walking with him through her mansion, very casual and matter of fact as she points out various artwork, but wearing only her heels (shades of IF there).

If anyone knows it would appreciate letting me know, love to watch it again, sober this time.

I've just been reading about the death of the great French director Eric Rohmer and it reminded me to mention his lovely, gently erotic movie "Claire's Knee". A real delight.

Malicia from Salvatore SAMPERI with Laura Antonelli
I used to fantasy myself as this young maid (Laura Antonelli) but I was far more attracted to her than to the boy she seduced :)

tie me up , tie me down-Antonio Banderas
absolutely awesome French film where the young Banderas kidnaps the object of his stalking (an erotic film star) and slowly and gently shows her how much he loves her while he keeps her tied to a bed, is one of those films I have watched again and again and again and never tire of

tie me up, tie me down-a very young Antonio Banderas kidnap bondage film, totally hot

Thanks for sharing. Those are great.

Before Secretary, my favorite erotic movie was The Unbearable Lightness of Being. Lena Olin and Juliette Binoche do an erotic photography scene that just builds in tension.

The Lover

There is one specific scene that sticks out.
It’s a hot, humid summer afternoon and the Asian millionaire and French schoolgirl are making love on a bed next to a busy afternoon street in China. All around them you hear the sounds of people, shouting, talking and scurrying about their day. Above them a ceiling fan attempts to cool, suddenly you realize that all that separates them from the masses is a single, bamboo shade. If you have ever made love in the afternoon with the window wide open shielded only by a partially drawn shade, you'll understand this scene.
