Best Droid GPS Tracking Apps?

We need to put at least one [preferably free, or at the most, a low one-time payment] GPS tracking app with web mapping on my husband's Android phone for several reasons.

Our main goal is to allow me to get an idea of where he is and when he'll be back when he's traveling for work or hiking without needing to call or text him (he's on the phone and/or driving great deal of the time, it can be inconvenient to have him call or text me back, and he often doesn't have good service while hiking). Like even a "keep track of your family members" type of thing that doesn't require said people to actively share their locations via text or email would be great.

It'd also be good for us to locate his expensive phone if he ever misplaces it; I already have the "Where's My Droid?" app specifically for this on mine, but he'd like more of a multitasker.

Finally, it'd be nice if this app had some cool features to help him while he's backpacking (like especially if he gets in trouble and I need to figure out where to send help), but he could certainly get another app specifically for that purpose; we'd welcome suggestions on this type of app from fellow outdoorspeople, too.

We've looked at a bunch of the options and reviews, but I've gotten good advice on apps here in the past, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask if you guys have some suggestions for us.

Thanks in advance! :rose:

Google Latitude will do this for you. Already part of the OS and works pretty well.

Ta fogle latitude works TOO well. This woman knew exactly where I was at without my consent

You can change the privacy settings in it easily, from what I've read. I'm not sure if you have to opt-out of general tracking, but you could always make sure only the people you want to give your info to have access, or just turn the app off, so it's not running in the background.

We are a little concerned about hacking since it comes pre-installed on many phones and is so commonly used. It's probably fine when used properly, but neither of us care for stuff that shares info with a bunch of "friends" (I have the same issue with sites like FB and Twitter). So, we may go with another GPS tracking app that's a little less common and will serve our needs better.

If his android phone is rooted i would highly suggest webkey as it is probably the most secure and effective for what you want. if its not rooted i suggest doing it. they have one click programs now for free and there is a virtually zero chance of bricking your phone, search for like super one click
