What do you think is the best day for a new story to be posted?

This is not something we can control but I believe Friday evening is best, so it is on the new lilst over the weekend. You should get more views and votes and feedback that way. As Vermilion says, during a contest is not a good time.

You want it to post early in the week. For some reason, the weekends are bad for views. If you're lucky to get it up on Monday or Tuesday, it will get good views while it's on the New list. It seems odd to me because I'm too busy to read during the week, but I was told that by a couple of editors who watch those things and have seen it in my own stories as well. It might change a little depending on the category, I don't know.

I'm not so sure of that. Personally, I find that my stories get more action on weekends. It may be a matter of category and style also.

I was thinking the same thing. I know for LW it's true. The difference between reads during the week and weekend are night and day. The people who originally told me are very plugged in to the most popular authors on Lit (most of them).

It's not like we have any control over when it's actually posted, anyway. Just when we submit it, which is what I meant by saying 'not during a competition' - it takes weeks then :)

Personally, I submit a story after I finish it, unless I have some reason to delay it, without worrying about what day it will be posted.

Me too, but I noticed someone talking about dead days for new stories and wondered if anyone else had an opinion.

If it's Category sensitive, I can tell you that you don't want anything to do with Sunday in Humor, Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Horror, Chain... probably any of the niche categories. Anything I've had come out on a Sunday has perhaps half the reads of anything else.

Thursday seems better than anything for me, although only by a slight margin over any other weekday. The stories that post on Thursday go up after midnight, and Friday/Saturday seem to have the highest readership - and the highest percentage of people looking deeper than page one of the New lists.

When I used to post stories in a spot where I could control the day, I definitely found Monday to be the best. Those weren't sex stories though.

I have found that stories that come out on Friday morning (here on the West side of the US...so Saturday to you) seem to do the best for me....

Want to know a secret?

Most people read Lit at the office. ;)

LOL, that's why I don't know anything about it. I did Help Desk support, so I know how easy it is for them to see what sites you've visited. I never had the nerve to look at anything...er...questionable. ;)
