Best Authors in Each Category?

How to choose?!?!
Honestly, I think anyone would be hard pressed to name 1 or 5 authors in each category. Every author touches (or doesn't) each reader differently to the point that any naming would be more of a popularity contest.
Besides, you could look at the "Top Lists" for each category & see which stories garner the most views/visitors.

I would never know! I only know that there are some damn good writers here-- and plenty of dross. But I like style, and my preferred stylistic quirks might not be your cup of tea, you know?
If I find a writer that I like, I'll probably be willing to read anything by that person, in any category. Likewise, if I don't care for what I've read, I can be pretty sure it won't please me in another section. Sometimes, you can tell that one story is an early one, and that this person might have grown in skill-- it's worth investigating.
For purple prose in historical settings; BlackShanglan (more or less hetero) and MilledeLaPlumeBleu (some Male/Male as well as het)
For allover excellence in all categories; dr. Mabeuse (especially good at horror) and SelenaKittyn 175 stories, and nearly every one has a red "H")
I like my own stories for lesbian BDSM
Dusk Peterson did some good M/M bondage stuff,
CarsonShepard and 3113 both write romantic gay male, and 3113 writes romantic straight sex as well-- both of them write romantic gay BDSM too.
