Benefits of having wife proofread

I’m not sure how many authors here have a partner who helps proofread your stories?

I was a little nervous at first, as after all, our stories are often coming from a deep seated place inside us. Sharing sexual kinks in a very open way.

I mostly write Hotwife stories - stag/vixen without humiliation side… but still I held my breath as my wife edited the first. My work is probably less female friendly than the smut she reads. There’s subtle differences in how the dialogue and descriptions of sex are written I find.

It’s been a great time though. My wife has started making great suggestions- she’s always know I have a voyeur side to me and enjoys Hotwife fantasies. But now she really is sharing ideas, and late night stories and dirty talk of her own while we play.

So the “risk” I took asking her to proofread has worked out. Could have gone the other way of course.

She’s writing her own books too - some spicy ones too so all the better!

Anyone else have similar experiences - where writing has had positive relationship impact?

I've read just about every story I've written out loud to my wife. The only things I skip are some of the violent scenes in my erotic horror work. Great way to see how the story flows, spot some typos, and its also become a form of foreplay, if the story is hot, I get something better than a 5.

That's awesome that your wife is your proof reader. I'm in the complete other camp - wife did not care to read. Hasn't stopped me, since friends DID care to read, and frankly - it's gonna get written anyway, right?

More interesting is whether yr wife reads your work and connects the dots (maybe erronoeusly) that you're into hotwife as a rule. Now, that's probably a conversation worth having...! Who knows where that leads?

Haha I totally get that. Great foreplay isn’t it.

Oh she certainly has joined those dots. The fantasy does get her hot.

My wife has edited some of mine. She's a much better writer than I am, so this took a certain amount of bravery on my part!

Some I haven't wanted her to read (e.g. Pygmalion 3.0) simply because I didn't want her to think I was into the sex acts described in it (I'm not).

With those that she has read, there's been zero impact on our sex life, though that's probably because we don't need much encouragement anyway.

My wife reads some of my stories. But she's reluctant, because she knows we have different tastes in erotica, not necessarily the acts but rather the POV or descriptions.

She has given me some good feedback which had me change several stories before posting. But when she read "Unique Rewards of Yoga", she only made it halfway through before pausing and telling me to do her for some relief.

I guess I get it right sometimes

My partner is first reader for most of my stories. I don't think it's had any big consequences for our sex life but it's something we do together that keeps us close.

I’ve been scared to share my writing with my wife. We’re a pretty vanilla couple and have most of the issues common to couples that have been married for 30 years when one of the partners (me) is ADHD.
Yesterday I told her about the positive response my first story is getting, but told her I was really nervous about sharing it with her. We talked about why I was nervous, we had a good talk, and she’s processing how she feels about the fact that I felt the need to hide something so central to who and what I am. She knows I’ve been writing, but not what.
My wife doesn’t read much, she’s got a dozen or so audiobooks she listens to when she’s of a mind to do so. I don’t know that she’ll ever be a reader for me, but I’m looking forward to being able to talk to her about situations I’m trying to work through in stories.

My SO edits all of my stuff, it's the main reason why it can take so long to actually post stuff. But I don't mind he's probably my biggest fan and I really enjoy talking with him about it as he's reading through, and correcting my punctuation. I haven't really noticed it having much of an impact on our sex life though.

I’ve stopped sharing erotic stories with my wife. She in the throes of menopause and they seem to leave her feeling insufficient and like she’s a disappointment, though she has enjoyed a couple of non-erotic stories I’ve shared.

Now she wants me to write the next best seller about some of the weird ass people and places my work has taken me to. 🤔

I... started writing for my ex, which is how I ended up here a few years ago. In fact, she admitted that The School Nurse's Punishment is one of her favorite stories. She was always the first to read me, and there were times in which she fixed my typos, which I still have so many.... so, so many...

The two earliest stories that I still have on my profile were supposed to be part of an anthology for her meant to be cozy, but I lost the desire to continue it because my hard drive broke, and she broke up with me eight months ago.

It was really a perk to have her fixing my typos, She's really good at noticing them.
