Belle Epoch 1994 Spain
This movie, set during the Spanish Civil War, provides the tale of a deserter that finds protection and comfort in the house of a farmer and the arms of his four daughters. There is no great meaning in this film, but it is a fun ride watching a loser living every man's dream. It is also an early film of Penelope Cruz.

watched it last night in the wee hours of the morning, and have to say, I absolutely loved it.

I thought it was great fun. The subtitles made for an interesting translation in some places from the original spanish. The language is bold as is the beauty of the sexuality in this film.

Sounds like a tantalizing film, and to be set in the 30's such a sexy time to be in Europe.

Was the cinematography and art direction matching to the romantic and passionate story-line?

cinematography, could have been a lot better. I found it a bit closed off. But what they did show was amazing. If they had the cinematographer from the movie Much Ado About Nothing, it would have been that much more masterful.

The acting is what made this movie. I wasn't too impressed with penelope, but the guy who played Fernando, and the other three daughters, Violeta, Rocio and Clara, they had some intense character development. Violeta, I fell in love with her.

Good acting and a commanding story-line can go along way toward making up ground on weak imagery.

Sounds like the kind of movie tailor made for making out. :p

I wouldn't call the imagery weak, but I would call it less than spectacular. I love spectacular, you know. I think it can make or break a movie and it didn't kill this movie, but it didn't make it that much more either. It was glaringly average.

Perky, I saw this movie months ago when I couldn't sleep. It was on really late at night, and although I missed the very beginning of it, I was entranced.

I'd watch it again. Wanna come over?

Sure.

Violeta was the one that dressed like a man, right? Why does it not surprise me that you fell in love with her? ;)

yeah, she was the one ;). I liked her attitude the best. Damn she was sexy.

But Rocio? Gawd her body, that face, but her attitude, bleck.

Clara, bleh, she was so sad and needy.

and Luz<penelope> Just young.

Violeta. puuuuuRRRRRRR when she was working him? Oh my gawd, that dance? the manhandling? She was tough.

I agree- she was the sexiest one in the bunch. I loved her during the party when they were all dressed up.

Perks told me about that scene and the scene immediately following . . . I really must see this film!

I love this movie! I bought it years ago and have to pull it out every so often just for the scene with Violetta and Fernando cross dressing and having sex.

It's a very hot movie!

(* just got goosebumps *) While I watched this movie, I sooo wanted to be Fernando. One of my all-time favorite movies.

ahhhhhhhhh Judo, nice to see you. You have great taste in movies. Were you suprised at the marriage? I kind of was.

Shoot! Marriage? Trying to remember. Was it something about Violetta supposedly finally getting married because the father found out she got laid by a man? I can't recall the ending. All, I remember are the three daughters... They have too many rooms in that house. I could stay there!

Four? Ah well, been too long. I saw it when it came out and not since. But I vividly remember Ferbando getting more than he deserved. Whew! If only...
