and your use of pejorative language is so universal, you people who are incessantly mouthing off against Donald Trump have basically switched off huge numbers of voters who otherwise might have listened to cogent arguments.

It seems to me that those supporting President Trump are equally rude.

The same has happened here. Over the last few years any respect for your opponents seems to have ended. That is sad because those standing for election (in the UK at least) for whatever party are generally doing it because they want to serve the public and much legislation used to have cross-party support. Now? Anything, however sensible, that another party proposes seems to be the cause of unnecessary and unjustified party bickering.

Recently some in the Labour Party have expressed the view that they could never have a friend who is a Conservative and can not understand anyone who has. I am sure that there are some Conservatives who would echo that but they have been less strident.

50 years ago when I spent much of my time at the House of Commons I found sensible and reasonable people representing all parties. I could, and did, talk reasonably to anyone even if I was working for another party.

Now they seem polarised and can see nothing good about an opponent. That is sad.
