So we're not so insulted in future, how long does it take to be 'approved' as an editor?

Going by some of the standards of work begging for an edit, they're obviously short of editors, or too lenient on standards.

Okay, for others, mine took four days.

They're really nice in their email too for anyone interested in editing.

It's voluntary, and easy to quit if you get sick of it or too busy.

We need more editors on this site, so if anyone has any questions they want to ask before they volunteer, ask here. I'm sure you'll get a lot of responses.

Yay!! I'm an editor!! :p

There are almost no standards of literacy on this site. You post what you want to post; the standardsof the editors who approve for posting are based on content and format.

There is no shortage of Volunteer Editors, look how long the list is. The problem is, many of them don't reply. The other problem is that many authors don't even try to get their work edited.

Not wanting to contradict you snoop, but going from posts on other forums, there is a major lack of editors.

They either don't reply, or are too busy to take work.

That is why I volunteered.

Sorry, the sarcasm in my post didn't come across at all!

Edited to add:
The fact remains that I have not had a request via the VE for some months now, which means that the few authors using it have plenty of editors to pick from.

I think the people trying to use the VE program are only asking one or two people. I did this the first time. Tried to find a few that matched my categories. didn't work

Then i just started E-mailing randomly and ended up with a really good one after sending out about 30 request and getting 10 responses.. But it adds a few weeks to getting a Story done. That why a lot of people don’t bother.

I'll get different opinions on my Drafts as well. i get a few,
“Looks good, a few punctuation here and there.“

Then I’ll get “your whole story is so mussed up i don't even know where to start.”

Makes you wonder... I’ve got about 5 drafts of different stories I Ditched because of the pain of getting it edited proper.

So then I just decided to just throw one out there and people torn it up like crazy. However it did get rated at 4.08 so it didn’t totally suck. But editors hated it.

I think peole should ask themselves. Do you want a Good story? Now do you want it to look professional? If you don’t care about the latter skip an editor.

FYI Mosquitoes CH 1 was edited. All others just used MS Word Spelling and Grammar checks. if you all want to compare. Mosquitoes ch 02 was a quick draft. I barely edited it for anything but spelling.

The thing that really irks me about authors not getting their stories edited is not when someone gets 4.08 (which, no offence Aaron, I don't think is all that good; but for an unedited story...), but when soneone gets a 4.62.

I want to know how exactly people vote; when you can barely read the story for the mistakes and the narration is cliche, how does anyone perceive that as worth anything above a single star?

Oy. Sometimes I feel like having your story edited should be required. (Then again, it's true that most editors don't respond to e-mails.)

It goes on wank factor.

I mean, seriously, who cares if her cunt is a cant?

Who cares if his dick is a dyck?

As long as she's getting some, right?

My fave story is Uncle Ben Has Taken My Wife. When I need to laugh, I read the comments left.

Z, you are a genius!

In all the discussions about the voting system nobody has ever come up with such a good idea. If they changed it from a rating of 1 to 5 and called it a star rating from one star to five star, maybe people would think twice about giving only 4 or 5, and treating anything less than 4 as an insult.

Elsewhere and elsewhen, I was talking with a bunch of folks about revamping the local rating system (not stories, but the basics were similar). We talked seriously for a while about adopting a bonus rating. You'd be able to give out 1-4 any old time, for example, but only be able to gift one story a week with a five. We knew that it'd drop the average rating below 3...but we liked the idea that the very best offerings would be identifyable by the fact they made it above 4 at all. And it'd encourage people to save their 5s for the truly outstanding works.

But we could never really figure out it'd really work out, and we didn't want to test drive it.

Here, I don't really care much about the ratings. Strike that, I know at any moment in time what my rating is ;). I obviously care, and since I'm a hen with one chick it's easy to be obsessive. But it's not why I'm here, so I try to pay more attention to the comments kind people leave me than the number by my name. If my rating was high, but the comments were negative...I'd feel the voters were generous, but not entirely honest.
