Hey, I know that just about any big, hairy guy can be a bear, especially if they've got that deliciously roundish shape as compared to the sculped "Hunk" shape...but, just FMI (for my own information)...need he be both large AND hairy to be a bear?

Can a short, relatively small, but very hairy guy be a bear (okay, a little bear)?
Can a virtually hairless sumo wrestler be a bear?

Into what "categories" do these two guys go if they're not "bears"--small but hairy/large but smooth?

Bears come in all shapes, sizes and states of hairyness. The bear is inside.

I've known little bears- but I've never known a hairless bear. :)
there's a proportion thing, too- bears are wide.

Ah-ha! So my neighbor--a very small but very hairy guy, is NOT a bear because he's not wide..not because he's short. Yes?

But where do we put him then? He's not twink. He's not a hunk....are these poor guys category-less?

And what about the poor sumo wrestler? Some big, wide guys ain't got the hair. Can't they be hairless bears?

cubs

For me,

Small, broad and hairy: badger.

Big, broad and hairless: rhino.

Small, broad and hairless: Haven't the slightest.

;)

Bears must be hairy. There have been cases of bear losing all their fur, but we mock them relentlessly.

Then we eat them.

I LIKE the Badger especially; very apt. The Rhino's good, too.

But this is beginning to sound like rgraham's Wild Kingdom.

Whadda say? Can we hand you a camera crew and microphone and send you out into the jungle? :D

Not unless you want pictures of the local zoo.

I like my amenities. :D

....erm......ahem........All of my actual hair is pretty much on top of my head and my face. You saying I am not a Bear?
Well, that's what I would call you...but does that mean the sumo wrestler qualifies as well?

And if you were to go bald...would the beard suffice?

Bear is more a physical presence, an attitude, body language, power harnessed but not often demonstrated.
Suma maybe, maybe not, depends on his mannerisms and way of carrying himself.
I have all my head hair, a full beard and little anywhere else. Never had much.
I am however large.
Been compared to a bear much of my life long before coming here and it has never had much to do with hair beyond wearing a full beard most of the last 15 years or so.

I refer to my SO as "Bear" (a shortened form of the nickname I gave him) and he's neither round nor hairy and stands about 5'4". "Bearness" is definitely a personal quality as opposed to an actual physcial definition, I think.

Neither round nor hairy, doesn't that make him an otter then? :p

If one grows out of being a twink, does one then become a stud? These are the kind of things I wonder.
