I've come to the conclusion that some of our posters enjoy being belittled and insulted. There are also those that throw out the most hurtful comments designed to bring the wrath of high numbers of posters to the victim's defense. It's all an extension of the sado-masochistic mindset combined with an infantile craving for attention and acknowledgement, however negative, into what's assumed to be polite adult discourse.
The vast amount of unregistered posts by apparently well-established community members, and the attention given to "trolls" suggests to me that this is the way of the community. The fact that admin and moderators respond at all to anonymous mud-slingers makes it obvious.
But be sure that there are posters unaware of these games. To them this board is a hostile environment and much that they could offer the community is best withheld. Anything you say can be used against you. There is no safe haven from the bullies here. And if you see someone being attacked unfairly, suspect that they may have brought it on themselves, and that they like it that way.
