Is indianPilot affiliated with Literotica?

The few pages I looked at were all reviews of Lit stories. Also, I noticed they've put a link to English Lady's website on their Links page.

http://indianpilot.tripod.com/links.html
NO, I don't think they are.
I've had two reviews from these people- excellent feedback, which led me to re-edit one story, because what they said made so much sense :)

After some communication with indianpilot we swapped links. I like how they put in the links to stories and inform the authors when they've been reviewed. I've been reviewed and like Stella I got some excellent feedback which i've used in writing since :)

Sorry for the slow response - but Christmas, a limping computer and life have slowed us down a little.

Are we connected in anyway with those that run and manage the Literotica site?

No - we simply started reviewing work on this site because it is the easiest to navigate - and the widest range of experience and styles. We simply don't have the resources at this stage to branch out and concentrate on other sites at this stage.

Having said that - if you come across work published on another site you would like us to look at - Drop us a line and we will see what we can do.

Link to English Lady's website? - indianPilot is always on the look out for sites who promote excellence in writing, especially within the BDSM frame work - English Lady offered to swap links, and we found her layout and forum structure very interesting, and geared in a very positive way to authors or erotic fiction.

indianPilot knows very few of the authors we review. This is a very intentional choice. We are trying to generate feedback to authors that neither comes from friends, lovers or relatives.

We don't know you - so all we can judge is the story in front of us. No more no less. We don't have any hidden agendas, we are not trying to promote a relationship with you. What you see is what you get.

We understand that this can create a perception of being aloof or even distant. We apologise in advance for this stance, but better to be seen in that light, than to worry about playing favorites or using friendships to our advantage.

If anyone is interested we have started popping into the chat section of this web site - we create the indianPilot room - please feel free to drop in and say hi.

Finally - Stella, thank you as always for your support. It is always gratifying to see an author accept our comments in the spirit they are offered.

All the best for 2006 and may you encounters be good ones

indianPilot.

It is odd that you only review Literotica stories, despite what you say about not being able to branch out to other sites. Odd and almost - incestuous.

I looked through all the reviews. Most are indeed positive and many offer helpful suggestions. Some of the comments could use grammatical assistance themselves (which is interesting when the comments state how the reviewed story could use the same) but all in all, the reviews certainly offer good publicity for BDSM stories.

Well Sarah I guess it is a case, you either accept what we say or don't. If you have a specific issue to raise, please feel free to do so here or contact us directly through the indianPilot website.

Our goal is simply to offer whatever constructive feedback we can. Being a good author is really only a matter of technique rather than talent, inspiration or whatever you want to call it.

Often an author can see another work is better than theirs, but not understand why. By highlighting work with good technique as much as poor, it is our hope the author will gain a deeper understanding of how to construct a more readable piece.

We chose BDSM stories as a focus because erotic fiction is a hard area to get quality feedback, and the BDSM genre even more so.

Our long term goal is to encourage those who are taking their first steps as authors. Many people begin writing erotic fiction, then branch into more mainstream material with hopes of becoming writers.

indianPilot is far from perfect, we would be insane to claim otherwise. So if you ever feel moved to do a review on one of our reviews we have posted, please do so. In fact we would encourage everyone to do the same.

We have built the site largely on guesswork - trying to anticipate the sort of material and structure we hope will be of value to authors. So if anyone has suggestions, ideas or complaints, please feel free to offer them.

And that is the troooth!
For that reason I have appreciated the reviews you've given. And, yes, I've responded to them, in your guestbook- one wonders if there's a more appropriate venue, I don't do chat :)

At this stage the site is set up with the feedback page or you can email - In the new year we are thinking of migrating the site to a new server. If there is enough interest we may create chat rooms - sorta still in the planning stage.

Our experience is similar to yourself, most writers prefer email or forums over chat rooms. We have found some writing sites have chat events - Everyone logs on at ex time to discuss a pre-set issue or area of interest, usually with a guest of honour who is an expert in that paticular field.

It kind of boggles the mind to consider what sort of experts there are in the erotic fields, but could be interesting lol

A forum is cheap enough software- there are plenty of freebies, or you can set up a proboards forum on their own site.
The feedback page is okay, except that I can't tell if you have read my responses and what you think of them, and it seems embarrassing, like hollering down the rain barrel.

More interesting reviews...

sure it is, Charley :)
IndianPilot's been letting us know about his reviews in this way, for months now.
Always of stories from literotica.

Yes.

Which I called "incestuous."

:D

Obviously some people are taking exception to what we are doing, and the motives for doing it. Rather than get into some slanging match about what indianPilot should or should not be doing, we will contact a forum moderator for a ruling.

We shall also ask that moderator to advise all and sundry of the relationship Literotica has with indianPilot, and to post that information directly to this thread.

Clearly, there are political under currents that indianPilot is not aware of or choose to be involved in. We are simply offering a service to writers who want to improve their craft, and readers who might be looking for interesting work to enjoy.

I don't know why you would worry about that- I've said it before, its damn near impossible to get serious literary feedback on smut, and even more so on BDSM stories.
I published one story at Cleansheets before- and then the editors told me they were getting too many BDSM submissions. It's one of the few sites out there that concentrate on literary excellence, and I was saddened to lose it as a resource. Therefore, I am glad when IndianPilot reviews one of my stories- it's one of the things that makes it worthwhile to post them here at lit!

No worries.

I also said it was good publicity for BDSM stories.

I just find it odd that all of the reviewed stories come from Lit.

Lady and Lucky

We just did a quick check of your submission histories. We only started our site in July 2005 - and from we have seen, neither of you have posted work since that time in the BDSM genre.

Sadly we can't even keep up with the current flow of work. So any chance or retrospective reviews is up there with World Peace and the Beatles reforming.

IndianPilot,
I respect the work you are doing with reviews and I certainly have no problems with what you are doing. I took a look at your site and enjoyed what i perused. I would say the one thing I hope you are able to do is a total lottery of whom you read/review. You are missing out on some really great writing by limiting your selections to only the newer submissions.
That being said... rock on!
vella~

Thanks for the observations -

Is being reviewed a lottery?

Definately - We do have some basic guidelines regarding content and frequency. Say I reviewed a story of yours today - I try to leave it a week before touching another. That way we can try and reduce observation of favoritsim and the reviewer getting jaded eyes.

Basically we steer away from older work because we see writing as an evolution. A snap shot of where an author was with their craft 12 months ago going to be very different to their latest offering.

Having said all that - we do invite people to make direct reccomendations to our site (from any source) And we have a section called the library - these are great stories, that we just love to read for the hell of it. We dont review then cause..well umm we get distracted lol.

If anyone wants to go through old archives here and other places like alt.com and build the library up, there is definately a vacancy. Warning though, anyone with any semblance of a life is going to struggle in the postion

Yes indeed. That can be a hard area.
