Yes it's important to sort out the true bdsm devotees from the occasional kinky fetish or mild spanking types. The category can be sub divided anyway, some folks like a nice bit of ropework and technical restraint, some just go for the sado/mas bit and enjoy pain and punishment. It takes all sorts.

My lovely lady slut wife likes a good beating occasionally if she feels she's been bad, but she's not into being tied or restrained while getting it, not often anyway.
