So I've been re-watching 'Outland', an Australian series about a gay science-fiction club. It's mostly comedy but I rather liked Andy's explanation of his penchant for BDSM and sci-fi:

"When you’re a surgeon, you hold someone's life in your own hands. When a patient doesn't make it through, there's no-one else to blame. So sometimes you want to escape. Maybe across intergalactic space, maybe inside your own body, explore the uncharted worlds of pleasure and pain. Science fiction and sex, they're two sides of the same coin. Exploration, adventure, discovery... because life is so short. There’s so much to find out. Do you understand?”

"Is any of that... true?"

[laughs] "Not particularly, no. Good though, isn't it? Well. You probably think there's some grand reason for all this. Truth is, Rae, people like what they like. Don't complicate it."

I'm of the mind that getting to know your body and psyche as a single unit =/= sex. Back in that thread where I asked what sex and sexuality was, I came out of it with the understanding that most people either think sex = erotic stimulation with intent to orgasm, or sex = everything a human could possibly ever do.

My fantasy BDSM, I could conceivably portray as being the opposite of sex; it's not meant to bring anyone together, it's not meant to create anything. It's entropy.

My real life dig is a completely different beast, though. I guess maybe that's the limitation of having a meat body. I rarely enjoy stimulation with the intent to orgasm, though, and I compartmentalize pretty heavily, so I just lump everything kinky I do under the category of sensation play. It involves the senses, it's play, that's all there is to it.

Now to figure out how to describe a fetish without using the word "sex" or "erotic", though...

Ayup. I'm very fond of sex, but if you REALLY want to see me blissed out, brush my hair or rub my back.
