I was just checking out the events on fetlife and I once read something about this huge fetish convention in Europe I think and it sounded very interesting. I'm curious, has anyone ever been to a BDSM or fetish event? Get togethers or parties? What are they like? I'd love to go to one, what would be a good event for a new-found sub to attend? Preferably in the Arizona-California area.

Do you go to your local munches? If not that would be a good place to get started and meet lots of people. Do an internet search for local BDSM groups, most big cities have one. Email the person in charge and they will help you. At my local munch we have munch buddies. People volunteer and then they will find someone of the same power orientation for you to hang with at your first gathering.

I doubt there are any BDSM groups or gatherings where I live. But I would consider eventually taking a trip north to attend some . I'm pretty much new and alone in this locally.

I don't know about Arizona, but you will have absolutely no problem finding a munch (or 50) in CA.

we are going to a "Dungeon 101" thing on Friday. I'm excited and scared LOL and now annoyed, my husband reminded me this am that he DOESN'T HAVE SHOES TO WEAR!!! rofl I know he must be nervous too if he actually cares about what he's wearing!

In all honesty, I'd start with a munch if you haven't gone to one already. It'll give you a chance to make some friends and get to know a little bit of the community before an event. And unless you have a friend to take with you already, you're going to want to at least know the names of a few people if you end up needing help.

Besides, the local community can tell you from experience which is a good place to start.

Europe is huge, as are the conventions. Basically every country has at least one, but you also need to pay attention to the laws. Public sex in France f.e. gets you in real trouble very very fast, in Germany again you would get away with some scolding, at worst a small fine. Czech Republic seemed to be kinda kink friendly, too, but it's been quite some time since I've been there.
