Just a suggestion, but I think you could combine this idea with the pregnant wife topic you opened. Coworkers cripple him. (He thinks it's an accident.) Then at her appointment they turn his wife into a slut by exploiting her raging hormones and lack of sex because of the accident.
The wife is vulnerable, with a baby on the way and her husband crippled.
