I think he may be relieved. In the long run, it's going to be far less damaging to leave Trump's "administration" from being fired on the basis of having defied Trump than it will be to have stuck it out with the clown to the end.
Won’t save his rep as being trump’s lapdog. But the announcement is delicious.

BigBadBarr appoints Durham as Special Counsel![]()
If Trump fired Barr would there be enough willing lawyers left in DOJ to draft all the upcoming pardons?
The way the full time professionals in DOJ have been screwed around by Barr and Trump could encourage an awful lot of delay and procrastination.![]()
Speculation is that Barr didn't go to the White House to be bawled out for conceding the election wasn't stolen but to take notes on preparing the pardons for Giuliani, the older Trump demons, and Trump himself.
Doesn't mean Barr won't think it might save him. He couldn't have been thinking long term to have campaigned for the job in the first place.
He didn't do it out of some moral conscience. He did it because the whole Elections are Rigged Shtick is hurting them in Georgia. Braindead Trumpettes are literally demanding to know why they should even vote if it's all a fraud. This is an emergency intervention orchestrated by Moscow Mitch.

You’d think he’d have done some proper due diligence into trump first.
Actually I wouldn't. Barr and I worked in the same office for several months before he wafted off to be a SC clerk. He wasn't a "due diligence" kinda guy even then.
