Now he wants to assist al Qaeda, I guess now a mainstream secular community group, in Syria.

Why is it our business if the Sunni and Shia want to have a bloodbath?

Who gives a flying fickle finger of fate what they do to each other?

Why are we getting involved in yet another conflict?

Why are we gun-running again?

Merchants of death?

These are all the kinds of things that Democrats seemed to care deeply about before the Great OZ was elected...

What potential problems are there with doing nothing? Can you think of any?

For being a coward, and not answering questions

YOU HAVE NO INTEGRITY!

Bye for NOW

In a funny sort of way he has to do something and in a funny sort of, and partial way, Merc was right about something should have been done 14 months ago.

Syria began to be flooded with jihadists 7 months ago or so and has started spilling over into Iraq, Turkey, Lebanon, and Jordan, destabilizing all of those nations. So it's in our best interests to try to bring the conflict to a quick resolution. It's beyond this administrations ability to admit that Assad is, and was, the best bet to go with. he may be an ass and a dictator, but he is a secularist and the country did enjoy considerable peace and stability. But after having shot off their mouths about how evil Assad is the admin. can't change horses so to speak.

The admin. thinks that it has identified secular leaders within the rebel forces and intends to arm them. I believe the reason that the decision has been made to do so is that they want the secularists to be better armed than the jihadists so that when and if the Assad regime falls they'll be able to turn those weapons on the forces of Allah because I don't think anyone believes that the fall of Assad will signal an end to the strife in Syria.

I personally don't believe that this affair is going to end in quite the way any of the puppet masters think it will and the probability of a jihadist regime replacing Assad is still pretty high in the event Assad falls. This is a case where Russia is probably following the best course, but they still have risks to face because if the jihadists do prevail Mother Russia isn't going to be high on their list of probable friends. In that case China, which has stayed out of the game altogether, will be the single largest benefactor of the conflict.
