As bad as people have been on this board in the 14 months or so that I've been around, I don't ever remember Laurel banning a single member. Anyone else think that maybe the day has come for there to be a first? And a second?

I don't think Laurel would do that. What would be the grounds?

There is a little thing called freedom of speech but there is also a thing called not reading what the post. I have found after being here for along time that people can be mean but eventually they leave because people tend to ignore them after awhile. It has happened many times before since I have been here.

To ban or not to ban is a hard question for everyone. Luckly Laurel does try other methods then that one. But who knows there might come a day that she may and who say that person won't come back under another name or as a guest?

I can't think of any good reasons but........

if 51% of the members that had posted on a thread in the last thirty days voted for it..I have to say hell yes.!

How can you be sure she hasn't banned some one before....they wouldn't be here to tell us, would they...

Do we have free speech here? I think this is a privately owned board...we play here at the honored invitation of Laurel and Manu. Wouldn't you kick rude guests out of YOUR house?

Now i wonder...

Is their a law against harrassing some one on a internet discussion board.?

From another thread...

The first amendment does not guarantee that your freedom of speech has no consequences, it does.

You can say whatever you want, without being arrested, including lies or defamation of someone's character. (which might get you in trouble with a civil lawsuit, but that is person on person, not government on person.)

But that doesnt mean that saying whatever you want wont get you banned from someplace or other such consequences. There can be rules of conduct...that does not infringe on your right to express yourself.

Say whatever you want without fear of arrest...that is what the first amendment stands for.
Not say whatever you want and never have anyone react to it.

This is a private site, not government run. They can refuse service or access to anyone they chose.

Is that clearer to you now?

Class dismissed for the second time today.

so-called private information may have been passed, and if Mistress wanted, she can sue for defamation. Of course it would be a lengthy process. Nevertheless, it's not really up to us. Live and let live, and if you can't live with it, then find something that you can live with.

Dang. Now I've got to put my pants back on again. ;)

Laurel made a decision not to ban a while ago. I think it's a good idea. If she starts banning, then she has put herself into a position of deciding who is "good enough" to stay. In light of Sexy Thang and KidRock's recent behavior, which has been astonishingly bad, that may seem like a good thing.

But, once you start banning, you set precedent. And then Laurel is in a no win situation. Someone gets attacked and cries to ban are shouted, "but you banned so and so for Poster A!"

They don't contribute to the board, but I think banning, which wouldn't necessarily get rid of them, would be worse.

If Laurel and Manu did ban someone they would do it quietly and with dignity. We would never know about it and quite rightly so. It is extremely difficult to ban someone from an internet board. I have seen boards destroyed once banning started. It inflames those who have been banned and they just come back as trolls etc. worse than ever. People are cruel. I don't like them very much in r/t and the internet does little to change my opinion. It's all about having fun, leaving for a little while if you're not and making sure you protect yourself in between. Have fun kiddies and don't let tiny minds get you down.

More than one way to skin a cat.....

Just complain to the people who supply the software and host their site.

www.ezboard.com supply the software. If you go to their create site page you will find a contract that the site owner has to electronically sign.
One of the clauses is.

6. USER CONDUCT
You agree to not use the Service to:
(a) violate or solicit the violation of any applicable local, state, national or international law;
(b) infringe the rights of any third party, including but not limited to intellectual property rights and privacy or publicity rights
(c) upload, post, email or otherwise transmit any Content that (1) is unlawful, threatening, abusive, tortious, defamatory, obscene, libelous, or invasive of another's privacy;

Seems like they've done most of those.

Now any ideas how to find out who's server is hosting their site?

I like the concept, but don't know if it will work or not.

I tried that once with someone with an AOL address. The guy was threatening me and I turned copies of his email over to AOL. Not a thing happened to him.
