Bad things in threes?

How superstitious are you? Do you believe bad things come in sets of three? I never really believed in that sort of thing, but lately, I've been rethinking that stance.

Over the past few years, I've noticed major events happening in a particular pattern, three events, all within a week's time. The last time this happened, our house was struck by lightning, my husband wrecked a car, and another car threw a couple of rods. None of these things were devastating, the lightning only damaged the phone lines, the car was insured, and the other car was repairable. Still, that's a lot in only seven days.

This week is starting to have a familiar feel. Saturday evening, my husband's grandmother passed away. Tonight, my sister-in-law's boyfriend was in a car accident. Now, Grandma was 96 and very ill, she is at peace now, and the boyfriend was not seriously injured. Unfortunately, I have this creepy look-over-my-shoulder feeling going on and I would like it to go away.

So, has anyone else ever noticed things happening in sets? And while I have you here, does anyone know of any good luck charms? I may have to change my mind about those too. ;)

I read the thread, thought about it and will quietly back out. Damn, can't help. :(

Good luck? Is that a correct thing to post? Sorry?

No right or wrong thing to say, most of these things are out of my control. If anything, it was more to take my mind off of pointless worry.

We've held together during all of it. None of it is exceptionally difficult or even unusual. The curiousity over threes is what happens when I have too much time on my hands. Kind of like wondering why there is a little button on my keyboard with a moon on it.

Anybody?

Do you have a Hewlett Packard keyboard? Because on mine.. the moon is a standby mood. I THINK it's so you can kinda like put your computer to sleep without actually turning it off.. not sure tho, i've never pushed it.

I always shut down using the "start" button thingy

When I was a kid, grown ups used to tell me that people die in threes. Ironically in 1987, my dad, his sister, and sister's husband all died in a 3 month period. Go figure.

I am usually not a superstitious person, but in my experiences things happen in three's. Both good and bad.

All you can do is live and what happens, happens.

If two bad things happen close together...

I always wait for the third.

But what part of our dark and distant ancestory is the cause of this particular superstition?

Yup, same superstition in my family. And it seems to hold true, amazingly enough. Last time was two weeks ago. I had a relative die and then two fellow employee related funerals, all in a week.

If I hear of one person I know who is dead, I just start waiting to see who the next two will be.

Three's it is! Never fails, if one patient codes, at least 2 other will that same night. Maybe not in our unit, but throughout the hospital, there will be three codes that night. We don't question it, we just expect it.

So far for me 2001 has been a really bad year so far I have lost 4 people to the spirit of death this year.

I also believe in things happening in threes. My brother, my step-sister & I all had children in 1982. My brother in law's son, my son & my step-brother's son all died within a year of each other. They were aged 19, 17, 21.

Three's have it

I have to agree with the rule of three.

In the ER, if you work a code, you will almost always work the next two within a few days....

Same for bad wrecks and rapes....

ITA with ya kitten

3 yrs in a row now every December:-( somebody in my family passes away that's kinda why i dread dec and ya's think with my bday and christmas all in the same month i'd be happy EH....:(

I would agree with three's but only if I can go with three-a-week.

Sometimes, it sucks to be me. :(
