Bad Reviews

You're the reviewer aren't you RN? Heheheh.

Lit should be very good practice for receiving anonymous negative criticism now days. Get lots of that posting things around here and they don't always sign their name. Which is, of course, fine. I've even managed to prevent myself from lambasting my critics on the boards. Not an easy feat, mind you, but at least here we have the recourse of responding to it, not just sitting back meekly and unwillingly taking it up the ass from some critic. Some of those book reviewers don't even use vaseline.

Sounds a stupid question KM but is any of it constructive or just someone being nasty? I am surprised that.. No ignore that, I'm not in the least surprised but I wouldn't think that you deserved it. What I have read of yours was good.

Gus

Both of it Gus. Some of my stuff was pretty bad, typo and grammar wise. I also had the idiotic notion that you did this: "Hello." He said. as opposed to this: "Hello," he said. I cringe when I see it. I get mostly good feedback from people telling me how the liked the story, sometimes explicitly enough to make me blush. I like those, dirty Muffin that I am. Sometimes the attach pictures of themselves enjoying the story. All I can so to all of you who've done that, just oh my gawd. I didn't know people could actually do that without slipping a disc!

Some of the constructive criticism is thoughts about how the story should go, ideas for sequels, or offers to share personal experiences for other stories. Sometimes the criticism involves mechanical stuff. One individual told me that trucks don't run all the time, the driver gets where they're going and shuts them off. They don't leave them running. This made me very aware that I have an international audience, some people have no idea what an 18-wheeler looks like, let alone that the drivers live in their trucks and since the engine is the power supply for climate control and electrical appliances. It never occurred to me that things I take for granted might be alien to other people. It's made me take more care with what I write. Of course, I asked for his opinion, and I cringed at some of the things he told me, but he was right. *sigh*

Some of it is just negative. My latest story is about Daddy-Daughter incest. Yeah, me of all people writing an erotic story involving that particular topic. I received a very nasty email from someone who'd probably experienced incest the way I had. This person intimated that I had no idea how harmful incest really was. It made me mad, I'm glad they did it anonymously, it took a while to calm down. Then I had someone rip me up pretty good for corrupting a preacher in the pastorale story. It was fiction and the pastor I wrote it for is pretty much corrupted anyway. Even if he is a virgin.

I'm thinking of a career change... bad review bounty hunter! Sounds safe enough, and still a bit exciting....

KM, You're getting pictures? Wow, I guess I will have to go read everything you have ever written now, but I promise I won't disgust you with any nude pictures of myself.

Honestly, I would love to get more feedback, negative or positive. My stories are mostly highly rated, but I get very little feedback. I wish I knew what I had to do to inspire people to talk about my work.

And about the negative reviews, I try to look at it this way: if they took the time to write the review, even if everything they said was negative, then they must have thought your work was at least worth reviewing. That in itself is positive feedback.

Or at least that is what I keep telling myself, over and over and over again.

KM, That is because you are soooo beautiful, If I posted my picture I would just make people ill!

Seriously, you are a very lovely woman, and a fantastic writer! I can't wait for your next story.

KM. You should switch off the 'Receive Anonymous Feedback?' function in your members profile. That's bound to really piss the Trolls off. Hee-hee.

Yeah, if you're getting really freaky anon feedback and it's bothering you, I strongly suggest you turn that off. The Anon Feedback option is there as a convenience for the readers and to help the writers gain more feedback, but if some whackjob is using it to be a dipshit, then what's the use? An occasional 'you suck' dork is par for the course (unfortunately) but a series of unwelcome useless insults is a misuse of the function.
