The fact that a Democratic Socialist could have done as well as he did was clearly a huge wake up call for the Establishment. But as they say, forewarned is forearmed.

It would have been better if the fight could have gone all the way to the convention floor, but that is just not in the cards.

So now we have the Democrats all but having nominated Hillary Clinton to run against The Drumpf. If any of you are familiar with Martha Coakley (The presumptive Democratic favorite that lost a Senate seat and a Governorship to the Republicans in Massachusetts within four years), Hillary is a National Martha Coakley.

And at the same time The Drumpf sweeps away the primaries and all but assures the nomination.

Bad, bad night for the US of A.

April 26, 2016.

I think the greater wake-up call is the backing that Trump continues to get from something that's probably less than a fourth of the electorate (both Hillary and Bernie continually beat him in the individual voting in the primaries) and the nature of the sentiments that quite large segment is revealing.

When Bill Clinton was elected

Hilary was saying that when you elect Bill you get two for one. She was right, she was not the fist lady that the people were used to seeing. Lady Bird Johnson planted flowers along side highways to beautify America. Pat Nixon stayed drunk as much as possible, while Mary ford turned her drinking into a good example with the Mary Ford Clinic. Nancy Reagan chanted just say no every chance she got. Barbra Bush was to nice of a lady to get involved. But Hilary fought members of both parties for her healthcare plan. She gave it everything she had and got her ass kicked. She had to back it down a bit because she was too strong, and was hurting Bill in the polls.

She should have been elected in 2008, I think we might have been better off if she had been. I didn't at the time and I gave my vote to Obama. Looking back I think Hilary would have done a better job. But we will never know now.

I think the tragedy is that Obama would have done a better job if he'd waited until this round and gained more experience and sense of reality of what could be done and how it could be accomplished.

You could be right Pilot

And then again she is a hawk and she might well have marched into libya where Obama kept us out. It is hard to say. I do feel she is ready now and has an ax to grind. I hope she arrives with the senate in democratic hands and a Supreme court justice in her pocket that will make the republicans shit a screaming worm.

They both work for the same folks....Monsanto...Sachs....Lockheed Martin...etc.

Hillary will be 4-8 more years of the same ol' shit.

The wealth will continue to concentrate bigger and faster, she will sell us all out as soon as it's convenient, if it's inconvenient she'll dress it up with a pretty title or beat the "But look at this microscopic bit of pretend progress!!" drum until the lemmings fall in line.

what's your plan then

I guess you are in north cal. I am in fl. I dropped out back in the seventies and have worked and lived in the shadow economy ever since. Self employed and avoiding supporting the state whose stated desire was to put my ass in jail. Now I finally see the country starting to come to its senses and you come along and tell me it ain't so. I wish you lived closer by, I would invite you over and share a fat one and work out our differences . I do hope you are wrong in your view of her and I hope for both of our sakes I am right about her. She seems to be the only game in town.

Depends on what you mean by 'starting to come to it's senses'.

In some ways sure, in others it's like they can't wait to ruin what improvements they make before they have a chance to be an improvement.

Weed for example....yea they are legalizing but they are trying to monopolize the market and limit/restrict it all into a few rich guys pockets.

AK is the ONLY state so far that isn't totally fucking crony. But they banned it pretty much everywhere on local levels lol

CA's new legislation? They aren't going to be regulating shit with the monstrosity they created last year. The only way they could is if it's shall issue licencing and I just don't see CA handing out any more than 30 or so licences statewide.

Cool kids only!!! America...it's like a giant fuckin' middle school lunch room...fuck it.

I wish you lived closer by, I would invite you over and share a fat one and work out our differences .

That would be cool but I think the point would be moot politically, I'm done giving a shit.

All I'm going to do is get mine and fuck everyone else...it's the American way.

I do hope you are wrong in your view of her and I hope for both of our sakes I am right about her. She seems to be the only game in town.

It would be nice but if history is any indicator she's just another corporate tool who's going to shit can 98% of her campaign rhetoric and half ass the last 2%.

And the next POTUS will be another uber bazzillionaire mega bux by the upper crust for the upper crust and the one after that and the one after that.

Do remember that Obama ran on a platform of building up our presence in Afghanistan. He wasn't being a dove at the time.

The choice will probably Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump. Think about that. Take a long, deep breath and let it settle in. It's unbelievable. One of these two people is going to be President of the United States of America. I never thought we would ever be in this position. But then again, it's been a long time since we've had anyone who's truly been qualified to be President. To my memory, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Reagan, Bush I. It's hard to say. But this ticket is beyond awful.

There were similar reactions to most of those at the time. I remember hearing the completely honestly given arguments that the pope was going to be in charge when Kennedy was elected. I think people are reading too much into the power and effect of the office of president. It's balanced in action by other powers more than the "sky is falling" crowd is given it credit as being.

I concur. But to the extent that they are a figure head of the United States of America...

three of the names on your list would rate pretty low

Nixon while damned by nearly everybody, wasn't as bad as Reagan in my opinion.

The only president who might prove to be worst that Reagan would have to be G.W Bush. His record is truly staggering.. He could very well qualify as a weapon of mass destruction.

I feel much safer with Hilary, and even a little safer with Trump then george jr.
