CNN senior data analyst Harry Enten said Monday that the 2028 Republican presidential race is already taking shape, and Vice President JD Vance has surged far ahead.

Several polls found Vance emerging as a strong early 2028 contender. During a segment on “CNN News Central,” Enten said that while formal declarations remain years away, potential contenders are effectively running now.

“These guys are running already, even if they haven’t formally declared. They’re already running, and JD Vance is running well ahead of the field,” Enten said. “Top chances to be the 2028 GOP pres nominee, the prediction market odds. Look at this. JD Vance, 48% chance. Nobody else is even close. Marco Rubio is way back at 12%, and no one else is even above a 5% chance of being the 2028 GOP nominee.”

Enten said early polling and prediction-market data show Vance dominating the still-forming 2028 Republican field.

“This number is not coming out of nowhere. And I will note, of course, you know, he’s not at 50% plus yet. But when nobody else is even close, that makes you a clear heavy favorite. And there’s a reason why. Just take a look at New Hampshire, right? The first in the nation primary. I mean, take a look here. JD Vance at 51%. The next closest is Nikki Haley, who’s at 9. I mean, what is that?” Enten asked. “That’s 42 points ahead of the pack. Tulsi Gabbard is at 8 in the First in the Nation primary. JD Vance, you know, running 42 points ahead. There’s a reason why he’s such a heavy favorite in the prediction market so far, because if you win the GOP primary in New Hampshire, chances are you’re going to be the Republican nominee for president.”

PB Dems appear to be ok with Vance as the candidate. (poor bastards). :)

He's such a good candidate that Trump won't endorse him.

And Vance is hoping he never will, otherwise he has no chance.

JD Vance calls Trump ‘morally reprehensible’ in resurfaced emails

Former friend releases messages largely from 2014-2017 in which
Republican VP nominee also says: ‘I hate the police’

It's too early to start talking about polls and who's leading them. In fact, I'd prefer everyone just shut up about it because history has proven that the early leader rarely wins.

Trump has been the early leader at all times since 2015.

2016 Vance, "I go back and forth between thinking Trump is a cynical asshole like Nixon who wouldn't be that bad (and might even prove useful) or that he's America's Hitler"

^He is definitely an asshole, but not cynical enough to anticipate the scale and duration of Nixonian attacks that would be used against him and his team, including attacks by people on his team.

I went back and forth for a while in 2016. I was glad to see Bernie running as a real candidate, not just another corporate party hack. But the Dem bosses were determined to nominate the worst of the worst of corporate hacks. So I had a look at Trump. I eventually decided I couldn't vote for him, but I could accept a Trump win if that happens. And then he proved his competence and determination to work for the nation.

Having to choose between a known Hillary and an unknown Trump, I couldn't vote for either. After watching Trump for four years and how badly and to what ends the Democrats were willing to go to shut him down, I realized I had to vote for him, especially how awfull Harris was. :)

Well, you know better now, don't you?

JD Vance loses to my great uncle Murray in the polls and he's been dead for 20 years. How is this bad news for anyone except the GOP?
