Bad Day For Porn

is now illegal in the Ukraine, unless used for medicinal purposes.
Medical purposes? I had no idea the stuff I was writing could be used for medicinal purposes.

Ironically, the world may have a bizarre coalition of puritan New Labour and evangeligising Americans to thank for this giant leap forward for moral mankind.
So everyone about to make a lot of money selling back market porn in the Ukraine can thank us Americans  You're welcome. It's what we do best, after all. Outlaw stuff that shouldn't be outlawed and create black markets.

IT won't be long before it happens elsewhere, folks. . . .

But it will take a real expert to define it. . . .

Medical purposes? I had no idea the stuff I was writing could be used for medicinal purposes.

Sperm banks, for one.

Anyways, it's been known that Ukraine is an anomaly of the old Iron Curtain, being highly receptive to Pentecostal evangelism being spearheaded by immigration from Africa.

I'm so glad that the Czechs and Slovaks are more progressive. Someone has to make my Slavic boy toy porn.

Damn! Their definition includes almost ever reason that I LIKE porn!

"Pornography is vulgar, candid, cynical, obscene depiction of sexual acts, pursuing no other goal, the explicit demonstration of genitals, unethical elements of the sexual act, sexual perversions, realistic sketches that do not meet moral criteria and offend honour and dignity of the human by inciting low instincts."

I must admit I never thought of the Ukraine as a hotbed of porn and evidently it won't be if this crackdown is effective (which I doubt). For some peculiar reason, most communist, fascist and socialist controlled countries are extremely prudish. Sex is only for the purpose of producing more workers and soldiers for the state...much like a colony of termites. ;)

Yeah. Socialist controlled countries are like that. Sweden, for example. It's sooooo prudish. All the socialist Swedes want to do is produce more workers and soldiers. That's why they have this.

Thank god we live in a capitalist nation, where the party of capitalism, the Republicans, would never, ever think of curtailing our access to pornography. No sir!

In reality though, we have become a nation rules by feminazis (not actual feminists, but male-bashers), who don't like porn more than the religious right do, and who think their political agenda trumps basic civil liberties.

And by the way, we pretty much abandoned socialism in the 80's.

Actually I was thinking along the lines of National Socialisim...I should have clarified that...I'm sure Socialisim as practiced in Sweden serves them quite well and they are most certainly sexually liberated.

Alas we're nowhere as sexually liberated here, and more's the pity. I would also imagine there are as many Democrats as there are Republicans that would like nothing better than to take pornography off the internet and magazine racks and put it in the gutter where it belongs.

Socialisim and sexual freedom are mutually exclusive as I understand it. There seems to be a confluence in Sweden. :D

I always thought the Ukraine was one of the prime sources of young women sold into brothels. A lot of the porn they are banning may feature their own citizens.

My point was that you presented was logical fallacy, as the fact that non-socialist, non-communist, and non-fascist governments can be equally prudish, and have historically been so. So you can't blame any of those for being the cause behind the censoring of pornography, though we'll grant that it's certainly easier for a fascist government, with one man laying down a fiat, to enact such laws than it is for a democratic country where a consensus must be achieved.

However, you should keep in mind that in a free-market society you can easily have such fascism in the form of one owner dictating the morals of his/her company. So, for example, a Henry Ford can demand that his workers all be teetotalers if he likes. Or, as the original Christian owners of Adelphia cable famously did, that their cable company not carry erotic stations.

Free market economies do not prohibit their own type of fascism; if those who own the companies are prudes, then they'll as quickly impose rules against sex as any other type of economy. The choice of economy that a country has doesn't dictate prudishness--prudish people in power, and those who allow them to have their way unchallenged are what dictate it.

Quite true. I don't recall Mussolini being prudish, but Hitler and Stalin certainly were. Since capitalisim (of sorts) has come to Russia, porn has flourished there.

Although I find it more than repugnant when an employer decides to be the moral arbiter of his/her employees...it's his/ her company and they can do what they please within limits...ban guns in personal vehicles...ban smoking on premises...have all personal items including photos and religious symbols removed from offices and cubicles...the list goes on. You either conform or quit.

As I said earlier, sexual freedom and economics are mutually exclusive (if you don't count hookers). :D

Sixty years ago, in the USA, the kind of stuff you see offered on this site would have been illegal. I mean even nudity, unless it could be passed off as "ART" such as the famous Marilyn Monroe photos. or some paintings or sculpture.

I used to keep 'art' magazines under my comic books in a drawer. Until they began sticking to the Green Lantern. :D

Maybe GL was wanking and getting stuck to the porn books. I never did see him with a woman back then, although there were female superheroes around, and some were single. It might have just been his wet dreams.

I wonder what effect this will have on all those hot Ukrainian sex kitten porn actresses out there . . .

You don't know some of the Ukrainians that I know

I'll probably be dead before this happens in the states. America and all its countries are based on freedom and rights. Take porn away from Joe six-pack and you're gonna' get a revolution!

Well, and from a purely economic standpoint, this economy can't afford to lose that 12 billion dollar a year stimulation. No pun intended! :D

I would agree more fully, except for a couple of facts. Porn, as we know it, has only been a legal industry for about 45 years and marijuana, a basically harmless drug, is still illegal.

Americans are docile enough to embrace anything. I expect we'll tax the shit out of it first.

We could balance the budget and put America back to work tomorrow if we legalized murder and taxed it.

America's the founder of that technique... and it seems the entire population doesn't mind watching...

The enforcement of such a law would be profiling. Oh, the poor widower or widow who just wants to be able to fall asleep at night with that release. Start writing the tickets. :)
