Bad breath?

Hey there...

I recently found out that a few days before my period (and maybe during) I have really bad breath. It has to be a hormonal thing because it only shows up 2-3 days before the first day of my period. It's not just normal garlic and coffee smells!

As you can imagine, this is not a good thing.

I love to make out. Plus, I'm always SUPER horny before my period. Not a good combination. It got to the point where my boyfriend wouldn't even kiss me! I tried brushing, mouthwash, and those little green herbal pills. They worked for a short time, but not through a good make out or sex session.

First, does anyone have a similar problem? Does it coincide with your cycle?

Second, do you have any remedies? Doctor suggested or home remedies?

Please help me!

Thanks :rose:

Well..how did you figure out you have bad breath just before your period? Did someone tell you? I have never had this problem....
As to my knowledge...bad breath is created by bacteria. I have never heard of it being linked to hormones...but hey...ya never know I guess...they sell tounge scrapers to get rid of the bacteria...drink a LOT of water...not soda...I have heard eating apples helps...if you really think its a huge problem then see a dentist.

Yeah, my boyfriend told me. He kinda figured it out after we were dating a few months. Plus he said one of his previous girlfriends had the same thing.

Thanks for your input!

Being male, I don't have the same problem. However, I am a coffee drinker and a smoker. I keep altoids ready at all times since my submissive doesn't like my smoker's breath. She's not too crazy about the coffee breath either. I know it doesn't get rid of all of the taste/smell, but it does help. She doesn't complain at least.

I think this is a job for your doctor!

"Bad breath" like this can be a symptom of a serious condition and your doctor shuld run some tests to determine the exact cause.

For example, diabetics' breath sometimes smells like acetone -- it's called "acetosis," IIRC -- when their blood sugar is out of balance.

It's possible that this is a benign phenomenon, but you can't be sure of that until a doctor investigates and gives you a definite answer as to the cause.

Might be a stretch, but if you're like most women, you probably eat more sugar during the few days before your period. Don't chew sugar-y gum or candy. Brush your teeth more often and chew sugar-less gum or mints, candy, etc.

The sugar will cause you to have bad breath and with the increased amount of sugar you ingest during the few days before your period, it could cause your bad breath.

If you see it as a potential problem, speak with your OB/GYN. :)

Have any males run into this problem with a girlfriend through the years??

Thanks MasterJ for the Altoid suggestion! I never fell into the Altoid craze, so I never thought of that as a tempoary solution. Good job!

WH- thanks for your suggestion. I'll probaby ask my doctor or OB/GYN next time I go in. If it is related to blood sugar, it's hopefully related to hormones. I've been tested before and there was no problems with my sugar level. Hopefully anyway!

IG- I'm not usually a big craver before my period, but I will definately try to find out if I eat more sugar during that time. Thanks very much!

:D

Do you have any digestive problems? Does he smoke? He is the one who told you and he said himself he had an ex with the same issue...maybe its him and not you....maybe something else to consider....

The thought of blood sugar problems came to mind because both my ex-wife and my eldest daughter had blood sugar problems during pregnancy because of the hormone changes involved.

You might want to schedule your next OB/GYN visit for the time that the problem will be noticeable. It stands to reason that you would test "normal" when you weren't exhibiting the symptoms.

Whatever you do, don't use Altoids. My mom is a dentist and she's been telling me forever how those things rot your teeth. Use those little Certs instead. Altoids will ruin your teeth.

Thanks for the info! I care deeply about my teeth, I'm a chronic brusher...

No rot for me!
